The Royal Family continue their customary summer holiday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. This morning, Her Majesty and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and others attended Morning Services at Craithie Church.

You know I was in the supermarket today and it occurred to me that since I have been back in the US for a while now I have gone 3 months without hearing any of the following names: Posh, Becks, Geri, or Robbie. Nor do I get the daily royal update, thanks Lord.

Thanks!! It may be the wrong time to start the thread as the Royal Family are all in Scotland, the Government are on Holiday and Parliament are not sitting. However, we will see what happens.

I have always been a royal watcher.

August 26

Today is the anniversary of the English victory over the French at the Battle of Crecy in France in 1346. This was the first great victory over the French in the Hundred Years Wars. The war was occasioned by the claim of Edward III to be the rightful King of France in right of his mother, Queen Isabella, the last surviving child of King Philip IV of France.

Today is also the anniversary of the death of HRH the Duke of Kent in an airplane crash in 1942. He was in the RAF and enroute to Scotland. He was the 4th son of King George V and Queen Mary.

August 27

HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, has several engagements in Aberdeenshire including the opening of a new school.

The Royal Family continue their summer holiday at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The REAL Royal Thread...

David Beckham is training at Man U.
Victoria Beckham is shopping
Brooklyn Beckham is playing in the yard under the watchful eye of his nanny. Until David gets home, of course.

Champions League, 1st leg

Manchester United falls to Zalaegerszeg 1-0. 2nd leg match is this afternoon, 20:10 BST.
Ryan Giggs to the BBC: "We must keep our concentration." This echos statements made by Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday.

LordLucan, I know you had an eye for royal goodies. Who do you think is the most fuckable of the Winsodr females?
I have never had a sexual fantasy about any of the Royal Family - Am I a traitor?

But I wouldn't mind posh!

Back to the board you old rogue..............welcome home!

'Tis not a traitor you would be for such a sexual fantasy. You'd have to be blind!

BTW LordLucan, it's Crathie Church (Braemar and Craithie is an Aberdeen Parish but the church is Crathie).

Hi Bluespoke! You've got me smiling right away and marvelling at your detailed knowledge of Scottish ecclesiatical matters.

Proving once more that one should never get information from the BBC without crossing checking. Nor should I type before drinking enough coffee to be somewhat lucid. Thank you for the correction. I hope I don't repeat the error next Sunday.

oh, and the only decent major European Royal to inspire naughty thoughts is Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.. All the rest are too inbred.

Not too many in the UK but a whole host of Americans flock to see them every year.

Good point. I got dragged to see the changing of the guard myself when I was last there to visit. I did it for love, not because I had any interest in seeing it.

I did enjoy the crown jewels exhibit though, but that was because I appreciate beauty. I don't care about who is wearing them.

It is interesting that anytime you go to Buck House to see the changing of the guard, British voices are in a minority and the majority are American.

However if they were just interested in the jewels or the spectacle it would not explain why the vast majority of visitors to the Balmoral area are also American. At Balmoral there is no spectacle or jewels to see, only the Royals themselves.

I have no clue. I went to London for the shopping of a specialty item I collect. And the cathedrals. But the royals? No, thanks.

was living in London for over 2 years before a visiting distant cousin dragged me to the changing of the guard. My god, was that boring. I did enjoy seeeing the Crown jewels at the Tower tho. But I am prone to being easily entranced by shiny things.

Accessibility. That's the key.

The English royals are inaccessible. In the European kingdoms, the royals have long since been de-mythicized. (hey, when you can't remember the word, just make up a new one!)

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is a wonderful woman and the Danes love her. Smokes like a chimney, designs costumes for the Royal Opera and has a sense of humour.

In Oslo, you walk up to the palace and look in the windows.

All the changing of the guards and the fancy clothes at fancy occasions are just a footnote of history that are kept around because of nostalgia.

But Lizzie II, she's a humourless wench who can't get in touch with the people.

I agree that she can't get in touch with the people but she has a wicked sense of humour.

Those boys are lovely tho. That little Harry, you just know he's never gonna outgrow the need for a good spankin...
