So, I know what the red H means, a story is Hot.
What does the E & the others mean? I'm assuming Excellent.
W means a story has won a contest, either first, second or third place.
E means Editor's choice, which I guess means that it struck a chord with Laurel.
"E" actually stands for "Everybody". As in every person that read this story agreed it was a masterpiece not to be missed.
I kid.
But seriously....
To receive an "E" would be a proud accomplishment for me as well. Alas, I hold my breath not. For now I'll have to be content with the comments of anonymous critics who declare my writing to be "dumb, dumb, and dumber."
The Red H can be a target for 1 bombs.
The Blue W certainly is. Winners' ratings can drop significantly shortly after the announcement of the end of the contest. A few years ago, a third place story might have also won the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest within 48 hours of acquiring the W.
The Green E for Editor's Choice is rare but has struck a chord with one person - Laurel. It can also attract green jealousy! (My E has never had an H.)
You need to write more to increase your chance of gaining an "E".
I have one "E" in 217 stories, but you have 75% H in your list - a much higher percentage than I have.
Edited to change to the correct number of my stories - senility approaching.
I don't think I'll ever get one. Or a W.
But at least I have my H's.
*cries*

I have one "E" in 206 stories and 11 poems, but you have 75% H in your list - a much higher percentage than I have.

And then there are 20+ jeanne_d_artois stories...
And you have a much higher percentage of H's than I have.
Congratulations.

My favorite LIT writer, Daphne DeWitt, had a total of seven stories posted here before she disappeared. She had no red H's and three Green E's. ...
Usually it was the guy getting his ass handed to him by a woman who wouldn't put up with his BS.
I don't think I'll ever get one. Or a W.

Laurel has to process through all of the stories submitted. I'll take the Green E as the ultimate compliment here. It's the only one that can't be manipulated by the users regardless of story quality.
Of course it would be nicer if there were several editors so that varied tastes could be represented.
That's a very good point.
The "E" reflecting whatever the "flavor of the month" is for the one editor is a little unfair because let's face it, whatever categories they have no liking for will never receive one no matter how well written.
-I know this guy that's written over 500 stories, not one red H.
We have an author who's posted over 2,000 stories without any.![]()
