Hot take of the day: Jussie Smollett’s guilty verdict makes it harder for victims of hate crimes

MSNBC
@MSNBC
Jussie Smollett's guilty verdict just made it even harder for victims of hate crimes,
@ZachStafford
writes.

The reaction of the right makes it obvious that they don't ever believe victims of hate crimes.

They feel vindicated and now every single hate crime reported will be accused even more of being a lie.

Hate Crime - You mean like the Christmas Parade massacre last week that's already been dropped from the news???

Or the part where cnn had lightened his picture to make him look less black and then dropped the story completely??

Yes it does make it harder for people to report hate crimes and several semi related things. If your point is we should just bury Smollett have at it. The thing is that the Me2 unit shows the exact result of not 'believing' the victim and pursuing it from that angle instead of scaring them into corners.

His bad behavior, criminal behavior should result in some sort of punishment, but the real reason the Right cares about this is the same reason they care about the rap sheet of various people who are fatally shot by police. If Smollett is lying we should assume other people are lying, even if caught on camera. If a cop beat me half to death but I'd seen multiple cases similar to mine lead to a not guilty I'd tell everybody I fell down a flight of steps and call it a day.
