News of the closing spread rapidly across the Internet and other media. It has clearly struck a nerve with consumers who got up early to buy the snack cakes while they can. A Chicago-area convenience store sold out of Twinkies by 9 a.m. this morning, according to wire reports. Stores from Manhattan to California have also reported being hit by Twinkie runs.

I hope slobdownsouth didn't have to stand in line too long.

I have to admit I've been craving a twinkie. Will probably see if I can get some today for the family. I like to split it in half length wise and lick out the cream and then I eat the cake. I have a really great easy cake recipe I guess I will never have again. You line the twinkies in a pan and then do something with jello and pour it over it and top with cool whip!:(

I can see it now. Black market twinkies. They have a shelf life of forever which is scary.

I hear Twinkies have so many preservatives in them that they last 25 years.

They're prolly going to be a collectors item.....:D

We have a wonder bread factory near us. Toured it when I was in grade school and they gave us a loaf of bread. It was so fresh my mom and I couldn't quit eating it. One of the good memories I have of mom.

The Mexican company grumpo bumpo wants them. The twinkies can be filled with drugs and shipped back to the States.

Twinkies do not have a very long shelf life. They go stale after a month.

Where the hell is Obama with a bailout package?

I, for one, find Chinese made twinkie replacements unacceptable!

Are people not aware there are knockoff twinkies like with everything else. They are exactly the same except with a different name.
