Howdy y'all. I haven't been around much lately due to constraints on my personal time (i.e. I have been workin my butt off and had lots of personal things taking up lots of my personal time........boo hoo...........)

Anywhoodle, I had a little oopsy yesterday whilst horseback riding. See he decided that he wanted to go, well when he went he decided he wanted to buck, well then I was bucked off.......and the rest as they say is history.

I managed to come out relatively unscathed, barring my swollen left thumb and knee, my right hand in a "soft cast" to help heal the ligament damage and a sore right hip. I am not really bitchin about it, because if you ride horses YOU WILL GET THROWN OFF sooner or later.

It was windy and one of two things happened:

a. He stepped on something
b. He smelled something in the wind and got spooked.

Needless to say I do not fault the horse, he is %99.9 a soft-gentle Stallion who wouldn't hurt you if you begged him. He did what his instincts told him to do.

Anyone been tossed off a horse before? I am just curious is all.......as I have been 'round horses most of my life in one way or another..........though I must say this is the most banged up I have been in around 8 years or so.........

(PS We have a new little foal who is 3 and 1/2 weeks old now, pretty 1/2 Qtr. Horse and 1/2 Arabian)

Your really lucky that you weren't hurt. I've been thrown before and it hurt like hell. The most recent time it gave me a concussion and some major bruising. I've only been thrown twice fortunately, the last time was by a horse that had brain damage or something. I have never seen a more unintelligent and stubborn horse. If you wanted him to stop he would go, if you wanted him go he would stop.

I was dragged by a horse when I was 12. The horse got spooked...took off and I started to fall off and my foot got stuck. It hurt. I still likes horses anyway. :)

Ladystarfire,

Your right, I could have been hurt..........*doing his best Macho Man imitation* "But being the instinctive guy I am, I knew exactly how to handle the situation" LOL.

I just sensed it and felt him *twitch* just as he was gettting ready to buck and instinctively took my feet out of the stirrups and *looked* around for a *soft* place. LOL.

I have broken and shattered my collar bone and elbow once when I was thrown off as a young boy (11).

PB,

I will always dig horses, they are smart and cool and beautiful animals. When he realized that I came off, he came over and *nudged me* with his nose to make sure I was okay. He had a look in his eyes like he was sorry. He is a cool horse, in fact I will ride him next week or the week after (not going this week due to ailments) when the soft cast comes off, unless the doc leaves it on longer. I can't ride until it is taken off though. :(

oh and PB, I have been dragged also, that sux. Hurts like hell when you hit your head on all those rocks and *holes* in the ground. I had a headache for weeeeeeeeekkkkksss!!!!!

Well, Chuckus...that must mean that even tho you have to type with one hand (as if that is any different:p ) you will have more time here!

Damn, I am glad you are ok!

I am typin doin the ole hunt and peck method!!!!

Hard to type with that darn cast on.....it takes me forever to type a little message, the first post took me like 15 minutes.....arrrggghhhh.

and Thanks for your well wishes *bratcat* I appreciate it, the doc gave me some good pills!!!!!!

about a hundred years ago, when i was 20 or so, my sister bought two retired horses...one a parade horse that must have been taught abut 20 gaits...the other a retired cutting horse...the first time i rode them i was with my brother in law and i was on the cutting horse...on the way back to the house, maybe two hundred yards, my brother in law yelled, "race you to the porch".

ass hole set me up...you had to pass the barn and corral to get to the porch and the cutting horse it seems, always went to the barn...he did a full 90 degree right turn at a full gallop...i kept going straight and nearly beat the ass hole to the porch...luckily i was young and athletic at the time...tuck, roll, minor scrapes....it would kill me now...

Chuckus, I want baby pix! I've got a colt due on July 4th, a Morgan/Welsh cross. The pic attached is the daddy.

Let's see... 4 broken ribs when my foot got caught in the stirrup and I was drug over a woodpile... a permanently damaged knee and whiplash when I didn't fall off and my horse crashed through a jump... a cracked spine when i was thrown from a friend's mule while foxhunting... a broken nose when my face met my horse's neck goin over a jump... a broken wrist when my horse fell on me... a concussion when i was thrown from a dumbass appaloosa... yeah, I've been there. For some reason, I keep getting back on.

I'm anticipating spending more time on the ground soon, because i'm training my 4 year old Thoroughbred to jump. I'm hoping she's a Grand Prix prospect. :)

I don't have them here, they are on my laptop in my office......let me get them and email them to myself tomorrow and I will post a pic or two for ya.

Wow! I haven't shown jumpers in ages, I'm just getting back into it after deciding that I don't really need my knee forever afterall. I'm doing some small time shows with her this season, and maybe some three day eventing, and then within the next two years, I'm trying out for the US Equestrian Team. That is, if I don't convince myself I'm too old.

Actual steeplechase scares the hell out of me. I rode the steeplechase course at the horse park in Lexington a million years ago, and it wasn't bad... but the thought of all those other horses on the track with me about gave me a heart attack... don't ask me why foxhunting is different...

Oops chuckus... I see we both are having a good week.

^5 to Chef.

Hope your okay man. We will survive, though I think your injuries are far worse than mine.......take care of you, eh?

Luckily, she doesn't *jockey* the horses, they merely train, own and race them............they are some beautiful horses.

Tomorrow I will put up some pics of the baby just for you. I don't have any *new* pictures (i.e. within the last week or so) but the baby is just as cute as can be. She has lots of character already!!!

Sounds like your way further into than me, it is merely a hobby for me (personally) and I enjoy the horses as they are just awesome animals. I have been riding/around horses the better part of 25 years now.........since I was a wee little boy.

and hey Pagan,

Lexington KY is where their horse came in 3rd, just coming back from injury. They didn't go full bore because they wanted to make sure she was okay (the horse)

The course in Lexington is beautiful. I was planning a trip to the Rolex Three Day out there, and it fell through, hopefully I'll make it as a spectator next year, and as a rider in a few more.

I've only got a couple of horses, and they're mostly for pleasure, but I've got incredibly high hopes for the one in training. She's got bloodlines from hell. Maybe she'll be the first horse from a dirt farm to win high honors.

Kudos and good luck to you.............oh dirt farm horse raiser who will have a winner in high honors. :p

It can happen to anyone on any given day. That is true of most things in life.........persistence is the key!!

Hey pagancowgirl..............I got something for ya here.....

This is a pic of the momma just about 1 week prior to givin birth to the lil lady baby!!

(the cute lil boy is my nephew!!!!!)

Here is one right outta the chute, "Ruby" was only a few hours into this world when this was shot............

Here is mother and baby about a week or so ago (can't seem to remember how long ago it was, probably like less than a week.......oh well!!!)

Hi, Chuckus! <wink>

*wink wink* Whew what a breath of fresh air to see you, My Lady.

I am good, you? Did you get my *message* the other week? (Or maybe it was days.........)

Did you see the pics of the Lil Baby "Ruby"? Ain't she a cutie for 4 weeks old?

How things in your world Mrs. Chanaud? Ain't been round much nor had much time to try and keep up with Litland lately........:(

It is nice to see ya..........

Yes, I did receive your message. Thank you. Unfortunately, I was in the midst of a class with my race team.

It's weird because I never come in here unless I have writer's block. Good thing I did because Lord and behold - here you are!
<smile> And yes, I still live in the land of SRP. <wink> Gawd, I'm addicted to that stuff.

Ruby is beautiful! You have to be a proud papa.

So, how is your new situation with your S/O?

I figured as much........you and in a class...........tis cool.

I just thought I would leave you a *voice* message *eg*

Things are well in the Ponderosa..........S/O and I are doing well. We have that *wedding* to goto this weekend.......and I am making an appearance for a bit then coming home. (If you know what I mean????)

We have been busy up to our eyeballs with stuff to do, it never ends. Though I must say soooooooooonnnn I plan on a nice slow weekend of nothingness *big smile* with no plans and no agenda and NO CRAP to do except lay around and watch boob tube!!!

Ruby is a cutie.........she is going to be gorgeous and BIG (one day!)

My sis and I already have plans to breed momma again with a BIG STUD *LOL* which should prove to be interesting given the type horse the stud is and the type momma is!!!

EGADS! The dreaded wedding!! Good luck, dear, and remember it's not YOUR family. It's hers. Just drink lots of free alcohol, sit back and enjoy the scenery. Yes, I was talking about the bridesmaids! <grin>

Ok, babe, I am overdue in about ermmm...10 threads.

It's good to see you again. Miss ya and talk to you soon!
