I am in the mood to be scared.

However, the mighty King's new book doesn't come out until next month. I have had it preordered since it was announced.

So I am asking ya'll to give me some book recommendations that will hold me over till then.

I found this one: Horrorstor

It sounds good.

Dear ltr,

I  you.

have you read The Strain? The Strain is a 2009 vampire horror novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

I just put that on my kindle. Its only 3.99 right now.

You know I love my horror.

Oldest son got it for me and I was almost convinced it would be another same old stuff: vampire - garlic, holy water, crucifix blah blah blah.

I am very pleased I was wrong.

Have you read the books by SKs son? He writes under The name Joe Hill? His books are great, especially Heart Shaped Box.

If you like SK, especially if you enjoyed The Stand... this is a really good book similar to it.

I grabbed a sample. It looks quite interesting.

Have you seen the show? Its not that bad.

Yep, I have all of his books. I even have the novellas he wrote with his dad.

Peter Straub Ghost Story(bad movie, great book)

Floating Dragon, Shadowland.

Robert McCammon They Thirst (vampires and cool killing ones, not sparky wussy ones) Wolf's Hour (great spin on werewolves) Swan Song, Ushers Tale

Koontz Phantoms

Horror/Thriller Michael Slade's Ghoul

I really liked this way back when.

Also, LTR...IT? Not much scarier than Clowns, but that's been around forever, I assumed you've read it.

Funny I just mentioned this one in my post before I saw this. Fantastic Book The Job's mask was a great touch.

If you like manga and horror, then you can't go wrong with Junji Ito's stuff.

Holey Moley, that pregnant image was disturbing.

I read IT when I was 14 and have loved it since.

I will have to look up Slade and McCammon, those are the only ones I didn't know of.

You spelled it wrong.

Hoor

He really took off in comics with his Locke and Key series.

I will admit to not being a big fan of his locke and key series.

F Paul Wilson,

The Keep(another horrible movie) is one of my all time favs

The Tomb is also well worth a read. Introduces a great vigilante character named Repairman Jack.

Koontz (as Leigh Nicols originally) Eyes of Darkness is a good creepy read

And William Peter Blatty's Exorcist is a must read, far deeper and more detailed than the movie(which was very good for its time) the book will have you really creeped out.

Me too! My religious Grandma found it and decided I might be a wee bit deranged
to be reading such scary stuff.

I'm not crazy - just a little mad.

:D

I would recommend Steven Millhauser's Dangerous Laughter. It's a short story collection, but borrows heavily from Gothic elements to create narratives that are both disturbing and tender. Also, if you haven't by now, for the love of all that is good, read Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves. It is the horror novel to end all horror novels - a postmodern existential take on the traditional haunted-house narrative. It will fuck you up.

Dude, Shadowland was fucking incredible. I read that shit when I was like nine and have come back to it every few years.
