Miskatonic University's Samhain Ball was the biggest annual bash in Arkham, Massachusetts. Though being a few scant hours away from Salem, it wasn't a surprise that it didn't attract the throngs of people from the campus and neighboring cities. It always appeared rather full, yet not so full that there wasn't room to dance. Generally, the people who attended the Ball had done so for many years. People of wealth in the area, or those who wanted to escape the touring commercialism of Halloween at Salem.

Andrew Sohma was a junior enrolled full time at the university. The double Classicial Civilizations/Latin major was known around campus. Andrew loved the break from school work to attend to the Samhain celebration. He attended the party every year while he'd been at school, and a few years prior. His well-to-do father often dragging out the whole family to attend his Alma Matter's yearly gala. As this years theme was a masquerade ball, Andrew dropped his some what geeky and bookwormy persona to adopt that of very nicely dressed, altheletically built young lad. He wore a somewhat traditional tuxedo, with very unique mask. It began as gold on one side and shifted in color to a deep purple on the other, the mask somewhat presented the appearence of a demon with gold and purple horns curling of the top, peeking through his dirty blonde hair.

And from under that lavish mask a pair of brilliant blue eyes stared out at the crowd. Andrew strode across the room with a commanding presence he usually lacked or at the very least, didn't usually display. A nearly floor lenght cape trailed in his wake, the inside of the cape the same color shifted display as his mask, meanwhile the outside was black to match his tuxedo. He stood near the drinks and fixed himself something quickly. Announced behind him was the traditional, "Dance with the person next to you" Dance that usually pited the hapless dean to dance with one of the professors, usually both men looked rather awkard, but it gave the room a chuckle.

Andrew finished his drink in time to just see a vision of beauty standing beside him, without a dancing partner. He bowed respectfully and spoke softly, "May I have the honor of this dance?"

Emma Totez was in her second year at Miskatonic University and it was turning out to be the time of her life, for one never could feel so free while at school but she was. Business major was what she was all about along with her minor of photography that everyone seemed to bad mouth for everyone seemed to believe that photography could get you no where in your life yet she chose to believe otherwise which had turned out to be such a great thing. The Halloween season had come and brought with it crisp days along with the last of the changing colors of leaves for they always seemed to fall much later here then back home, home was far away now back in the mid-west where the summers got hot and the winters were pretty cold but not as cold as out east where she was now for that much had been learned last year.

The Samhain Ball was heard about as it had been the year before but she had chosen not to attend yet all seemed to talk about how good of a time it was so she changed her mind about it this year. In her room she would stand in her costume which she didn't believe to be much but she did stand out just a bit, a dress which looked to have belonged within the medevil times was worn the color of it a blue that was to dark to be that of sky yet to light to be of the night sky. The mask she had chosen was one that was the same shade of blue as her dress yet it seemed to set off her grey eyes in the most beautiful way right along with her dark brown hair which she decided to curl leaving it to hang free down to the upper part of her back.

Time had passed after she had gotten to the part but no friends were found as she had decided to come last moment but that didn't matter to her for it was a chance to be out rather than alone in her room ending studying for something that could be ignored for a few days. "..Dance with the person next to you" rang in her ears for she had heard about this for it was always the talk of the people who came here, at the table where the drinks were she would stand silently just watching everyone while she looked to her right then to her left looking for someone not noticing the person who had come into view upon her right side. "May I have this dance" would be hear as she turned back to her right once more giving a bit of a smile and a not to the man who was before her.

His arm would be offered and she took it as he lead her out to the dance floor silently, her luck seemed to have been turning around just a bit as she looked at his mask a bit in awe of the color it was but she let it pass so that his eyes could be stared at just for a moment for she wanted to figure out if she knew him or not since it was a nice game to play within ones mind when at this type of things. "..Thank you.." she would whisper once that number was over giving him a bit of a smile wondering if she should go or stay and try to talk to him.

Grace and Style

He moved a round the dance floor with her, moving in a somewhat traditional dance. He held her close, staring down at her, also wondering if he knew her, or maybe she was a guest. When their dance ended, he bowed and kissed the back of her hand lightly, "The pleasure, and believe me.. a pleasure it was, is all mine. I am going to be heading out to get some fresh, brisk night air if you would care to join me?" He escourted her out onto the balcony where the music could still be heard, but a shade softer. He slipped his coat off his shoulders and drapped it around hers.

He bowed again, then took her around the waist and began to dance once more. "Your dress and mask are very beautiful. I can only imagine the face under it is just as beautiful as the mask and gown hugging your body." His voice held a confidence in it that he usually lacked when talking to women, it was almost as if the powers of aninimity gave him the chance to be as confident as he wished he could be without the mask.

He smiled and moved them towards the balcony edge, allowing them both to steal veiws of the beautiful scenery surrounding the campus...

Wonder and Awe.

He would lead her outside to the balcony where the music could still be heard while the sight was unlike anything she could have dreamed of for this night, something was felt going around her shoulders realizing that it was his coat that was giving her a sudden brust of warmth. Her thoughts seemed to be wondering still if he was something that she knew or not but by his voice she couldn't tell yet another thought seemed to come wondering if he was one that people normally passed by without another look back their way.

Anymore thoughts that she could have would be lost as his arm slipped around her waist moving her into yet another dance as they were out there alone. "..Thank you but your mask is something that I have never seen the likes of before nor do I ever expect to see it again after this night.." she would whisper softly as if becoming a bit more shy than what she normally was. Slowly she would slip away from him and walk over to the edge of the balcony letting her eyes gaze upward to look upon the stars making a wish.

Stars

He moved up behind, his arms placed on either side of the balcony and her. He smiled and pressed his cheek against hers. "I hope your not cold. If you are I suppose we could move back inside." He licked his lips and stared up at the dark night sky.

"It is a very beautiful evening. I wish we were closer to the ocean. There's nothing like watching the waves crash against the rocks, or against the beach..."
He had fond memories of visiting the coast when everything else in his life seemed to be going wrong. He never really shared these thoughts with anyone else, and he still didn't know why he shared it with her

But in part. He was glad he had.

Ocean

The feeling of his cheek against her own was quite nice for the warmth that was there seemed to be warming her up a bit right along with his jacket that was over her shoulders still. His voice would be listened to carefully as he just talked about the night and how it was for it was truly a dight that all should behold at some point within their lives.

"..I am not that cold, I will not break if we stay out here longer. You know there is that beach that is only about a 20 min drive from here." she would whisper in reply to him for she suddenly did want to look at the stares and the ocean for if only she had her camara she would be in heaven. The water always calmed her and made things so much easier to deal with in her life. "..The water is like life it continues to move even when you wish that it would stop for just a moment, the sound is like no other so beautiful while it at times can be so tragic."
