I have not been contributing much lately, since I have been busy with other things. But I decided to submit an old story today, and copied down the statistics on my poems and stories. This is the first time that I had done this since I put a poem in, "Blind Date," back on February 20th.
Nothing about the story stats stood out, or anyway nothing new. But I have 67 poems, maybe more than anybody else, so I may be able to point out something about what has been going on there lately, and maybe overall.
"Blind Date" got 164 readers in four months, from zero, which is like the figures added for all the rest of the poems in those months, average of 146 excluding… Two exceptions: "A Diamond in the Mud" which went from 736 to 1169, and "A Kiss (and More) For a Special Woman, which went from 1622 to 2531(!). Those two are the first two alphabetically, which added to the fact that my story "Avalanche" has three times the average number of readers, indicates that you get read with items in the beginning of the list. (Though I don't think I've ever gotten a comment about "Avalanche.)
But the average number of readers on my poems from May of 2000 to February of 2002 was 248… Then I got two-thirds of that in four months. I can only plot the two points, I am afraid, but it looks like a hell of a curve!
I had thought that we were getting more verse lately, and therefore fewer would read everything, but it does not seem to be the case. Voting is as sparse as ever though.

O -

I think what you are witnessing in a roundabout kind of way is that the readership for the site is growing in general.

More readers, more who possibly want to read poetry, more counts.
