Are people so scared of contracting an STD that they can't really enjoy an erotic story that has unsafe sex in it, when the story is set in the modern day?
I wonder for story purposes, because I just read a thread about a story of anonymous party sex (masks, etc.) that stated all the people would have been tested.
So now I'm wondering if it was just this person, or if it's fairly universal.

if you're talking about the thread i think you are, then i think the answer is pretty clear: yes. :>

Um, I think if the question had been posted without the assumption that people were STD free then that would have effected peoples answers.

I've heard of many authors who were "flamed" for having "unsafe sex" in their stories. I guess some people are very vocal.

Then again, I've also heard of authors being "flamed" for mentioning the use of a condom or pill or whatever within the story. I guess everyone is vocal. lol

what's that? you mean people are opinionated on the internet?!

[cry of anguish]

:D

OK. The idea seems to be that you should do what you like/are comfortable with, because SOMEONE is gonna be pissed/disgusted no matter what, right? :D

It is very true that in today's society that if you are going to have sex with someone other than one you know and trust, you are advised to use protection. Disease is rampant and that is a well known fact.
But on the other hand, this is literotia. There are STORIES, nothing more. And yes, some of them are based on life experiences by certain authors and whether or not they practiced safe sex is up to them. But as far as a story goes, whether or not any of the parties depicted in the story practice safe sex or not should be strictly up to the author.
I mean......are we really concerned about fictional characters contracting a STD here?

Right. :) Write for yourself. Write something you like. (Unless you take on an "assignment" from someone requesting a specific story!) If someone else happens to like what you like, cool! If not, oh well. This is a big WWW!!

And the nice thing about the "Feedback Portal" (or whatever they call it) is YOU can control YOURS. If you personally want to "censor" negative feedback it's your prerogative. :)

I wouldn't want to censor feedback. I figure it's the only way I'd be able to grow as a writer. Well, not the ONLY way, but a damned good one.

Here here! I agree this is fiction people! Sure some of the stories are true as the author of the piece states but otherwise its just fiction you don't need to know if someone will catch an STD in a story. This is why they call it a STORY

Sometimes. Depends on the realisticness of the story.

When I'm writing and the story is somewhat realistic, condoms are used (except for rape stories).

If it's a story with 6 people in an orgy in the green room on the set of Desperate Housewives, then I usually will ignore condoms. (Hmmmm... story idea...)

Sometimes when I think the man would put on a condom, I don't explicitly say it so that the anti-condom-in-erotica crowd won't be turned off.

Yes, if we're trying to make it realistic. Idealized worlds makes for bad erotica.

OK....so in a MOVIE.........which is a STORY LINE..........when an actor is shot (killed) on screen, it would make a better movie if the actor really dies?

Horrible analogy. I suppose you think that it actually is comparable, hmm?

Heres an SAT question you'll never see:

Death is to Movies as Condom is to Porn

You do have a point I don’t remember in any story I have read on lit that mentions sexually transmitted diseases of any sort now what about a story of the results of a unsafe sex encounter that leads to a case of Chlamydia or something worse then what happens in the persons normal relationship
