It's come to my understanding that the homosexuals are not as accepted by Blacks, as they are whites or caucasians.

I don't think it's something that can be put into broad general terms. While some African-Americans may not like gay people, there are plenty of white people who don't like gays either. If you're talking about an issue of what percentage of each race is homophobic (i.e. 30% of blacks are, but only 20% of whites are - totally making those numbers up), then I'm not sure about that either. There is also a very strong and vibrant black gay community in the United States, and I've never heard of them hating themselves!

Damn, ks, you need to make some more token black friends before you can legitimately formulate that assumption.

I didn't make any assumption. A spokesman for Jessie Jackson spoke about it last night on one of the news shows.

I also posted this on the general board, and no one of color chooses to reply.

I would like to say that it is just a stereotype, just a generalization. I haven't known any African Americans who were openly gay or openly homophobic. I did have a friend in high school who would go t GSA meetings with us, but the majority of the group were straight girls who were good friends of the one gay boy and the two or three lesbian girls in it. It always kind of made me wonder if any of the girls who I thought were straight were bisexual or bicurious....but I digress.
Since I don't have any legitimate proof, I think I'd like to say that it's a generalization that a lot of white people have. I have a friend who I was explaining the movie Chasing Amy to. I was telling him how there was a black gay male character in it, which I thought was great because you rarely see them in film, if at all (except for Six Feet Under...that's the only other one I can think of), and the character was such a wonderful one. He said to me, "Oh, that sucks for him". I asked him why. "Well, he's a gay black man. They're often looked down upon more so than white gay men." It did get me thinking. I had never met a black gay man, really, but I knew that they existed, so I want to say that it's more that they may be more afraid to come out about it because society still has this stereotypical image of African American men being these tough, super-straight, homophobic "playas", which is often fueled by a lot of rap music. This is one reason why I found it so intriguing to learn that there is an openly gay black rapper, who I believe goes by the name of "Caushin", or something to that effect. If this image could be left behind, then generalizations such as that could end.

Just my random thoughts.

I've read that certain enclaves of AA's tend to be homophobic, and those enclaves are often those that are strongly under the influence of religious leaders. So really, it's no difference from white homophobia, is it?

Jesse Jackson is hardly the place to go for black news. As the esteemed TANG GOD would say, Jesse Jackson is a card carrying member of the sweater vest club.

On another note, what makes you so certain the white community accepts gays in society? While we're generalizing here.

Perhaps the coloured folk on the GB feel no need to respond to such eye brow raisers. The raised eye-brow is for your choice in discussion topics, not the topic itself. I for one give you the eye-rolling guy.

However, this topic is almost worthy of discussion if race were removed and replaced with... hmm, I was going to say economic stature but even that leads no where. You find gays everywhere, in every society and social class and culture. Is it accepted? Depends. It is and always will be viewed on a person-to-person basis with the occasional daisy chain of sheep.

Now, do you find homosexuality acceptable? I know I do, but I have my reasons for that that have nothing to do with my sexuality.

Sometime when you aren't busy making jokes about Matthew Shepard's death or training your dog to attack people of color, try running a Google search on the name Bayard Rustin.

Ok....I read about him. He was a black gay activist.

Im sure he isn't the only one.

Its curious that no blacks will comment on this issue. I suppose you could explain it away easily like sterling, but I dont think their sealed lips is helping put holes in this theory.

It could also be that they dont respond because they lknow the theory is correct and they dont want to get involved in a debate with anyone.

OK

From personal experience, I have found that black people (as a rule esp. black males) are harder to deal with when one comes out as gay or bi.

As every one can see I am a bi-racial female. Yet, I have never received as much guff from my white friends concerning my sexuality. Maybe it is because we still have the whole *Mandingo* mentality. Who knows? I just know that it's way more difficult for me to talk to my black friends about my personal choices.

The only reason I didn't comment was because I didn't like the tone I precived in your intial and consequent posts. I find that there are certain levels of acceptance not only in the black community but in the community as a whole. It's not something that can be explained on paper but I can say as an african american lesbian I haven't encountered that manyt black people who were uncomfortable with my lifestyle. I mean theres been one or two people but it's not the norm in my life.

Ok, this is a great way to formulate a belief.

Ask a porn/erotica bulletin board if something about a minority culture is true.

If only one person you perceive as a representative of that culture comes forward to refute your assertion, by God it must be true.

Because Jessie Jackson is a reliable source as opposed to a nutjob, which he generally is accepted to be

Insinuating that black people...particularly that members of this forum are homophobic becouse they choose not to participate in your thread is shameful.
