Homophobia and disapproval

No.

It is quite possible to disapprove of homosexuality without actually being homophobic. The term homophobia has (imo) been applied to everyone who disliked homosexuals because of the common myth; if you do not like homosexuals you probably fear that you are one.

I do not like terrorists, communists, methodists or circus performers, this does not mean I am one or fear them, I simply believe they are odd.

I believe it is perfectly acceptable for people to disapprove of homosexuality, just as it is perfectly acceptable for me to disapprove of pesticides. I do not believe it is proper for them to discriminate against either homosexuals or against exterminators.

There most likely exists quite a number of true homophobes, those who denounce homosexuality in hope of convincing both their companions and themselves of their heterosexuality, even though they may feel homosexual urges. (must resist temptation therefore I shall persecute the source)

No.

I don't think I can improve on Kbate's articulate response. I'm not overly fond of circus performers either.

Technically homophobia is a neurosis (as in any phobia or fear of something or someone), therefore there really is no comparison.

My apologies... I had no idea where I was posting. But I'm sure none of you mind me posting my opinion.

No, I don't think they're the same.
Disapproval is more 'polite' if you understand what I want to say.
Homophobia is the kind of behaviour that completely ignores the personality and focuses on the homosexuality factor.
Disapproval may only apply to the homosexuality, but it doesn't mean that they may not like your character.

A person that is homophobic could never be in good terms with a homosexual, but a person who disapproves homosexuality, could.

Why would we mind?

Your opinions are welcome here any time.

there is no clear-cut answer...

I think homophobia is actually the fear of accepting that you may have your own sexual feelings for a member of the same sex.....

however there are a lot of bible thumpers who think they can get devil cooties from gays and lesbians too...........

Don't even get me started on clowns.

No clear-cut answer? I'm not sure what you mean.

I think there's some overlap of homophobia and religious fundamentalism.

I mean you've already have different interpretations of what "homophobia" means.

SO.. no clear-cut answer... don't think it's that hard to understand....

Who we are is very important for how we relate to other people and the world around us. When we view the world, we see it from our personal perspective. We sometimes hear the metaphor of viewing the world through our own “cultural glasses”

Our “cultural glasses” determine how we view the world, and they are shaped by our experiences, age, own cultural background and all other aspects of our life. This simply means that any interactions we have on a physical or emotional level stems from our own point of departure. It does not matter whether we are talking about politics or sports, or the weather, when we say something or even think something; it's normally said in a way that is unique to each individual.

It was Anais Nin who said:

“We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are. “
