So the first thing that struck me was how violent it is. I know it's about a war and all that, but it's almost as if they're glorifying violence.

True that. Had to read some parts.

ONLY THROUGH BATTLE YOU'LL BE A MAN - I guess that was the mentality of ancient greece.

The value system of the Classical world glorified violence. West of India and before Jesus, I've never heard of a pacifist from that period.

What was the second thing that struck you?
Agamemnon's awesome scepter?

There must be some glory in the wholesale manufacture of the battlefield stench of the era; shit and rotting flesh.

Seth McFarlane has a twisted sense of humor, that's for sure.

Don't forget the part about human sacrifice. :)

And yes, it does glorify violence. That is the point. The ancient world was a very different place, just think of the gladiatorial games in Rome. If you wanted a seat at the table in the ancient elite culture, you had to be very, very violent.

What has changed is the rhetoric. The thing that makes me detest, despise, people like Bush, Obama and H. Clinton is their hypocrisy. If they want to start wars, bomb civilians, drone people left and right, and kill thousands of little babies they should say so. Then I might at least have had som respect for them.

No, I have to take that back. If that is what you want to do, then it is something for which you simply cannot stand in public. You must deceive.

So, there we are.

I always associate the two because they are usually published together as The Iliad and the Odyssey...

Reciting the Catalogue of Ships in the original Greek is supposed to be an incantation to pacify the Gods.

It doesn't work but sounds marvellous.
