She's baaaacccckkkkk!

There is a little old woman that works the circuit here in Atlanta. She wears a nun's habit and holds up a sign stating that she needs money to go see family in Florida. She has been here for years. I even gave her money on one occasion, before I wised up.

Well she was arrested the other day for panhandling and the police found $3500 dollars on her. She stated that she had made that money that day ALONE. She has a REAL nice house, and her friend picked her up in a Mercedes. A background check found she had been arrested in FL, TN, KY, MS, and AL. Apparently, she works the southeastern US in a big circle, heading further south the colder it gets.

Now that's rich. Would you do it? I had a friend that used to put on dirty clothes and stand on a street corner in Fl to make ends meet. He brought in roughly $100 a day. What do you think? How many of the homeless we see are really scamming, or are these two the exception?

Well you can never be to sure, but just don't underestimate how far some people will go to make a buck. If you're worried about whether that guy whose hat you drop a coin in every day you pass on the way to work is a fake, just do what I do. Only donate to well established charities that help out the homeless. That way you can be safe knowing you're money is helping those who deserve it. You may not get the smile and thank you that you get if you give it to them face to face, but at least you know they're not secretly laughing at you as you walk away.

There was an article a few years ago about the panhandlers in a certain area of the city I live in. Some were "professionals" who considered it their "job" to beg and they did quite well at it making a living from it. The uproar was started because businesses in the area were posting signs warning customers not to donate to these people. The bleeding heart groups were giving these businesses a hard time for being cold and uncaring. The newspaper article agreed with the businesses, the only way to get rid of the professionals was to not give them one cent.

Now, I know there are legitimate homeless people out there but I don't know how many of them beg. Most seem to want to be left alone from everything I've read, but I'm not an expert. I also donate, but not to those who beg directly. I give my money to the Salvation Army and other groups that help the homeless with shelter, food, etc.

We have a whole group of professional homeless people that work my city. Our local paper did some articles on them a few years ago. I also only give to organizations that help the homeless. The people at the Salvation Army are amazing. I know a lot of families who have received help from them. It is just like any other facet of life, there will always be those who are out to cheat & steal. When the US Mint changed the faces & things on paper money, it was all of a month before we were seeing counterfeit bills that were pretty well made.

Ugh, ignore that last post there. I sent it again accidently. Stupid me.
