OOC...Home Front 1942

Homefront 1942, is a thread I am moving over from another RP site. It is not a typical SRP topic. It's more of a soap opera set in the New England town of Fair Harbor during WW2 . There will be lots of occasions for sex of course or I wouldn't open it here.

It's the Summer of 1942 and the War is getting serious. Many young men are already in uniform, rationing is getting more and more stringent and new war related industries are coming to town. Fair Harbor, a small coastal town before the war is seeing the effects of the conflict. Patterson's Shipyard has tripled in size and is running three shifts. A new Coast Guard station has been opened and 30 miles away at Fort Butler the Army is training flyers for the 8th Air Force. Port facilities are being expanded at an amazing pace. The USO is in full operation, scrap metal drives are being undertaken. There is talk of a new aircraft engine assembly plant moving into town. The place is really humming!
In the most recent action, Jack Becker a new employee at Pattersons has been instrumental in saving Davy Moore the teen age son of his supervisor from a group of German Uboat survivors who had taken him in desperation as a hostage. Toni Moore, Davy's older sister has developed a strong attraction for Jack and he with her.

These are the characters we need right now,
Jack and Toni will be played by myself and Maid of Marvels. Jack is in his early thirties and recently released from State Prison, something no one knows about except his employer at Pattersons. There is also a mystery about Jack. A clue to it is his ability to speak perfect German, a fact that raised a few eyebrows during the rescue of Davy Moore. Jack is of medium height, stocky and good looking in a rugged sort of way.
Toni is about 23 and she too has a past. Leaving Fair Harbor immediately after High School, she lived in NYC until the death of her father and the War brought her back. She has just started work for Edgar Carmody at the Office of Volunteer Services. Toni is tall and a real eye catcher, looking very much like Rita Heyworth.

Claire Fouree...A lovely young woman who is working as a waitress at Robinson's Diner. Her fiancé was among the first to enlist and is now on active duty in the South Pacific.

Nels Bronson, Lieutenant USCG...Nels has been stationed in FairHarbor since the new CG station opened in April. He commands the small cutter, EG LAWRENCE. Nels has had his eye set on Toni ever since he first saw her arrive at the Greyhound Station a month ago.

Elizabeth Moore...Toni's Mother, a striking and oversexed woman in her mid 40s. She was devastated by the death of her husband, but a year has gone by now and she is returning to a normal state of scandalous behavior

Edgar Carmody...Former editor and publisher of the Free Press, Edgar now has taken over as Chief of Office of Volunteer Services.
He is sixty, still a handsome man, he's Toni's employer and rumour has it, Bette's lover.

Frank Moore Junior...18 years old, he has already enlisted in the Army and is awaiting orders. He's Toni's younger brother and Davy's older one. Tall and exuberent, the High School Quarterback type.

Maisy Taylor...18 years old, and very pretty, she's been Franks girl since their sophomore year. She looks at his leaving with mixed emotions.

Others could be used as well, a Chief of Police Selkirk , Sophie Kelly, the vivacious redhead who's gone bad, the town 'tramp'. Andrew Sinclair, CEO of the new Airplane plant and any other townspeople, soldiers, sailors or secret agents you'd like to introduce.

This is a soap opera so sub plots are more than welcome.

Sojourner has spoken for the part of Lt. Bronson.
SexyChele for the part of Claire Fouree.
Ticklish Girl for the part of Elizabeth Moore.

The OOC will be kept alive to discuss issues related to the playing thread . A map of Fair Harbor to be posted soon.

The Story itself will begin on Friday.

Hmmmm...and just when I thought I was retiring...lol I cannot resist wanting to be involved in a thread with all of this wonderful talent! If I can be a secondary charcter maybe...Sophie Kelly sounds interesting...that way I can post sporadically! If you will have an old retired writer...lol

Oh cool, you did get my PM! Excellent.

It sounds like a really exciting story. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it. And I'm glad to see some old friends returning. :)

http://www.Bibracte.dreamwater.org/ATWAS/ritaplaid.jpgHomefront has been a really great thread at its original site. I have to tell you all what a relief it will be not to have to play all of the extra parts here. :D

I think my record is playing five of them in one week... You know ariosto and his "vacations". *sigh* Just remembering it makes me need a drink.

*heading for the club*

My eyes have been opened... what a refreshing idea for a thread. I would love love love to take part. If you can think of a character for me... since I see most have been taken. I'm happy to invent one myself if need be and slip it in somewhere... [oh blush! lol]

Maybe I could play Frank & Maisy if no one else wants them? Or just one of them... [grins]. Got to remember not to get ahead of myself... [lol]

Exciting!... Can't wait for it all to start...

[smiles]

Thanks everyone for the great response and welcome back MtnAngel! You're a natural for a "girl gone bad"
;)

Money Talks you are our Maisy, let's see if we get a Frank Junior...if not a menage a une might be interesting.

Thor Gunderson

OOC: you wanted a sub-plot, so I am inventing a character (oh, I am {was} a pilot so I can speak aviation technobabble).

Thor is a Norwegian-American, hates the Germans as his homeland is now under the cruel boot of the German occupation force. Thor is a Colonel in the Army Air Corps and commands the training wing at Fort Butler. He has flown everthing imaginable (as befits a boy whose father was a crop duster). The wing is currently training new B-17 pilots for the 8th Air Force. Thor wants to get into the war with the 8th, but realizes that new pilots are essential to our mission in Europe.

Thor is single, about 45, tall with piercing blue eyes. He lives on the base, but is in town frequently on "military" business.

OOC:

Thanx ariosto!... Maisy I be... [smiles]...

Ohhh... Thor... or Colonel Thor should I say... what a dashing figure you are indeed... [smiles]

[wondering if an 18 year old stands a chance with a gent in his forties... grins]

[ooops... slaps forehead... mustn't forget good ol' Frank... that is if someone takes him on... smiles]

I'm just itching to see this thing happen...

Wow! The subplots are developing already!
I may move the launch day up to Thursday.

Thor Welcome aboard! Maybe we can aerobabble a bit together sometime.

If no one comes on as Carmody would you consider a double part?

Claire

Ariosto, how developed has Claire's character been? Or do I have a little free reign to develop her as needed?

Glad to see you finally got this up and going!

OOC... characters left intentionaly vague Chele. Feel free to fill in the gaps.

Claire

OOC: Claire is 21, 5'4", with blonde hair, green eyes, and a figure that fills out her uniform nicely, causing male customers to give her a second glance. Her fiancee, Jeremy Parker, is in the South Pacific on active duty, and though she loves him and worries about him, she is beginning to feel the loneliness that comes with separation. She and Jeremy had talked of getting married in the fall of 1942. When Jeremy left to go into the Navy, he figured the war would be over by summer, and they could marry as planned. But the war is lasting longer, and no end in sight.

Claire works as a waitress, is friendly with the customers, and most confide in her. She also volunteers regularly at the local USO. Although not a gossip herself, she's comfortable to be around and people often open up around her. Therefore, she usually knows the "latest", but keeps it to herself.

Ariosto, what were the circumstances of Frank Moore Sr.'s death? Are those already set as part of the ongoing story, or do I have free rein in that regard? I'm working out the details of Elizabeth's character, and his death's impact on her will be part of that.

OOC: Aristo, I will consider a "double," but would prefer to manage one thing at a time. I am very busy, and I hate to have people waiting for me to post.

<-----SEL, MEL, Instrument - 1400 hours TT, 250 Instrument (no longer an active pilot, but on those "severe clear" days.....ahh).

Hi, TG!

It's very difficult to step into the shoes of a character that someone else created. That is why the details on the players here are so ambiguous.

(By the way... Frank Sr. is alive and well and very much in love with his wife Bette on the other thread.)

Personally, I think that if we all have a good idea of what Fair Harbor is like, the traits of the characters will fall into place easily. The background is important, but the "citizens" add all the color.

My advice? Paint away! :D

OOC... Frank Sr. suffered a heart attack last August...It's now mid June.

I understood it all Thor, and know how easy it is to slip into inactive. Chele by the way really does know her way around a J3.

OOC: Hmmmm....'nother sub-plot - maybe Claire is experiencing frustration over the fact that she has not been accepted to fly ambulance "Grasshoppers" for the war effort??

And....then again....maybe it wasn't such a hot idea! ;)

This looks a really interesting thread. I am tempted to get involved (though I don't know what character to play). That's if you have me, of course. :)

OOC...Zehrman we need a Frank Junior, Maisey's boyfriend. He's about to join the army.

OOC:

Since we are painting our characters... to give 'em color and all...

Maisy Taylor:

Height: 5'2"
Hair: Pale blonde and straight
Eyes: Vibrant Blue
Description: Waif like prettiness... peaches and cream complexion... slender all-American good looks. Not overly curvacious but not flat chested either. Typical cheer-leader type. In fact was the head of the cheerleading squad for the team that Frank was quarter-back for. Sickeningly a-typical perfect American couple that they were.[lol]

She can be the sweet innocent type. Seems like we got the gutsy types, the harlot types, the bad-girl types... always gotta be one there for being manipulated and such... [lol]

18 years old. So far a non-sexual long term relationship with Frank Moore (Jnr) who has just enlisted and is awaiting his orders. This is like the toughest situation she's ever faced in her as yet short and perfect life.

Howz that sound so far? [grins]

Sophie Kelly

Sophie Kelly - 21, somewhat unmanageable fiery red hair, blue eyes, Curvaceous body (full hips and breasts); was at one time a good girl, until....(you have to wait for that part...lol), now she does all the things men love and women hate (they think it's hatred but I know they actually envy my straightforwardness), I smoke Lucky Strikes, wear red quite often, and love a good stiff one (drink or anything else...lol)

Nels Bronson

Nels Bronson, Lieutenant USCG...Nels has been stationed in FairHarbor since the new CG station opened in April. He commands the small cutter, EG LAWRENCE. Nels has had his eye set on Toni ever since he first saw her arrive at the Greyhound Station a month ago.

OOC: Aristo, please let me know if this fits in with your concept of Nels, will modify as needed.

A few details (still doing some research on USCG of that time period, etc.) Second generation American, grandfather originally named "Bjornsen" but changed name to one more common in the Northeast.

6'4", 210 lbs., all muscle, early to mid 30's. Thick blonde hair in military cut. Tanned, weathered skin.

Joined the USCG straight out of high school and got in on the end of the USCG's war on Prohibition off the Florida coast. Distinguished himself as a sharpshooter (one of the methods USCG used to disable rum runners.) Stuck with the USCG through the sere years between 1933 and 1940, during which he attended the USCG Academy and was commissioned. Worked his way up very slowly to Lt. (a common problem in that time period of few promotions.)

Very much a "salty dog", his father was a member of the USCG before him. AS command of the USCG was given over to the USN at the time of WWII, many of the USCG's standard ships were commissioned to go to the North Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic theatres. New USCG ships left to guard American costal waters tended to be small merchant ships and yachts that were converted to USCG use.

Nels is torn between a desire to join in the war on the aforementioned fronts and the genuine pleasure of having a command of his own which he would not have in those theatres due to his relatively low rank and age. He doesn't think much of the Army "fly boys" and is not real thrilled that the commander of the USCG station itself is a wet behind the ears Navy officer. He is, however, very proud of the USCG.

Nels, as mentioned, is very attracted to Toni, and does not really have much respect for Jack, at least at this time. Not much of one to take "no" for an answer, he does not understand in the least what Toni sees in Jack.

OOC...looking good everyone!
What say we start rolling on Thursday afternoon.
Look for a map here tomorrow night.
