Justin Fox was just finishing his first year in college and was looking forward to summer vacation. He had a job lined up with a landscaping company. It paid decent money and it would keep him in shape and outside for the summer. He was also looking forward to spending the summer with his girlfriend. It had been a couple of months since he had seen her, and he really missed her.

Ashley and Justin had been going out since they were Freshman in high school. They had been inseparable. They went everywhere together. Many of their friends joked with them that they were already married. However, when it came time for college, Ashley had gone to the local community college to save money, while Justin had earned an academic scholarship to a school out-of-state.

When Justin got home, the first thing he did was call Ashley to see when they could get together. Ashley said she was working that night and all day the next day. Although Justin was disappointed, he took it in stride. Heck, they had the whole summer. Justin called his friend Nick, and they made arrangements to meet up. They met and Nick gave Justin some information that Justin couldn't believe.

There were rumors going around that Ashley had been seeing a guy that she went to the community college with. Justin couldn't believe it. Nick said that he didn't have any solid proof, but a lot of people were talking about it. Justin decided that he would ask Ashley about it, so, he had Nick drive him over to the restaurant where Ashley worked. When they got there, Justin went inside and found out that Ashley, in fact, was not working that night.

Justin called Ashley on her cell. Ashley answered and asked Justin why he was calling her at work. Justin told Ashley that he was at her job and that they had told him she was not working. Ashley freaked out....screaming something about checking up on her and stalking her. Justin decided to throw it out there. "Are you with your new boyfriend?" After a pause, Ashley said yes. Justin hung up the phone, and had Nick take him home. Once there, he went into the house and up to his room, stopping only to grab a beer on the way upstairs..... he figured if his mom found out that she wouldn't mind if he had one... especially when she found out why. He closed the door and turned on some music.

My name is Julie Fox and I am the typical housewife. I am 44 years old, still married to your dad, 5'8" tall, weigh about 135 pounds and I have blonde hair.

Your dad is away on business for the next couple of days, so I decide to take a nice, relaxing soak in the tub and wash my hair. Finding time to pamper myself is difficult and such opportunities are few and far between. The scented candles and lavender bubble bath put me in a good mood, so I linger and am in no hurry to get out of the tub.

Deciding to get out of the warm water before my skin begins to prune, I dry off and begin the long process of drying my hair. I also take the time to touch-up my finger and toe nails, which have gotten a bit chipped. "Hmmm....better make an appointment with Louisa," I mutter to myself as I brush on the pink polish.

Finally finished with my self-pampering, I decide to head downstairs in my robe for a glass of wine. As I pass your room, I hear the sound of music playing. I expected you would be out late with Ashley tonight, especially since you just got back into town after being away for months, so I open the door and peek into your bedroom.

Your room is dimly lit and what I see surprises me. Pushing the door open, I stick my head in your room and with a quizzical look, ask, "Justin? Why are you here? I thought Nick took you over to see Ashley?"

As my eyes grow accustomed to the dim light, I notice the beer in your hand. "Care to explain that?" I ask, pointing towards the bottle in your hand.

I hear my bedroom door open, and look over and see you leaning in. I don't say anything when you ask about Ashley, but when you ask about the beer, I decide that I have to tell you what is going on.

"I figured you wouldn't mind if I had one beer mom, considering what I found out tonight." I hesitate as I look at you standing at the doorway; still with only your head leaning in the room.

"Nick told me there were a bunch of rumors going around about Ashley. He said he didn't have proof but wanted me to hear about it from him and not from a bunch of other people. He took me to her job and they said she wasn't scheduled to work. So, I called her, and I found out that the rumors are true. She has a new boyfriend."

I look away from you and take a drink of the beer. "That is why I figured you wouldn't be too upset if I had a beer. It is only one, and it isn't like I have never had one before." He looked back toward his mom to see how upset she was that he was drinking in the house.

My expression softens. "Oh honey....I'm so sorry!" I say as I enter your room. I take a seat on your bed and place my hand on your arm. "Are you sure? She fessed up that she was seeing someone else?"

The beer issue leaves my mind as I gently rub the bare skin of your arm. "Did she say why? I mean, I just can't believe it----Ashley of all people!"

I watch as you walk in and sit on the edge of my bed.

"Yea, mom, I am sure. She admitted it to me on the phone. I didn't give her a chance to explain herself. It really doesn't matter anyway."

I take another drink of the beer and look down at your hand on my arm. Then, I look back at you... looking into your eyes.

"I guess what upsets me the most is that she is going out with someone else, and didn't even have the courtesy to say anything to me about it. Did she think I was going to be home all summer and not find out? Hell, it is not a very big town. Everyone in this town talks about everything. I found out about it in only a couple of hours."

I remain silent and just shake my head when you tell me that Ashley admitted to having a new boyfriend. "Well, I suppose it's better she did it now and not after the two of you were married." Smiling, I look you in the eyes and continue, "I just know you'll find someone new."

Trying to change the mood a bit, I softly pat your arm and say, "Come on....bring your beer and let's go downstairs. I can use a glass of wine and some company." Standing, I walk to the door, then turn and say, "Come on....you shouldn't be holed up in your room brooding over this."

I listen to you say that it is better to find out now than after we were married. I give a half-hearted smile and I watch you walk toward the door. I know you are trying to make me feel better, but I really don't want company.

"Thanks mom, but I don't think I will be very good company. I will just depress you, and I don't want to bring you down. I think I will just hang here for a while and make sure I do not spread my lousy mood.

Once again, I force a smile that must obviously be recognized as being fake. Then I finish the beer. "Thanks for trying to cheer me up mom. You are the best."
