BERLIN, March 22 (Xinhuanet) -- German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and Defense Minister Peter Struck Saturday jointly warned that Germany would pull its crew members out of NATO surveillance planes patrolling the Turkish airspace if Turkey pours it troops into northern Iraq.

??The warning message was announced after the two ministers attended a meeting of Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's security cabinet on Friday.

??It was reported that some 1,000 Turkish troops had crossed intonorthern Iraq earlier Friday. But the Turkish military immediatelydenied the report.

This would cripple the protection mission. Not just flight crews, but maintenance, and, knowing Germany, they'd pull the cooks out too just for spite. No offense to the Turks, but I've heard that the food at the NATO base is crappy. (and overpriced) WTF are they thinking?

Actually this is good thing - Bush needs to be encouraged very strongly to keep Turkey out of northern Iraq or we could see a blood bath at worst (they would love to wipe out the Kurds in the area), and at least we would see Turkey trying to take some territory for themselves (they would love to get their hands on the oil fields there). Turkey is pushing very hard to get their troops in there, that is why they are pressuring us with their on again, off again permissions for using their airspace, etc.

Turkey treats its Kurds only slightly better then Saddam treated the Kurds in Iraq.

By saying Turkey treats its Kurds slightly better I mean that the Turks do not use Chemical weapons on their Kurds but only kill them in other ways.
