I just found out that because of the success of the movie Gladiator Hollywood has decided to make some similar period pieces of real life people from ancient history to try and ride the coat-tails of Gladiators success at the box-office.
So they have chosen Boudica, the Celtic warrior queen who lead a rebellion that ultimately led to the razing of Camulodunum (then the Capital of Britain)! It all started with the death of her husband the queen, when the Romans came and raped her and her two young daughters. Hell hath no fury as an angry woman and she then led a rebellion to seek vengeance on the Roman invaders on Britain. She led a uprising of a 120,000 thousand peasants, tribesman, and Celtic warriors to the epicenter of Roman power on Britain, Camulodunum, were she burned down the city house by house to ashes and slaughtered all of the Roman's within. She then took her army to three other smaller cities (including London which was a small port at the time) and razed them to the ground as well. In a final fight right out of Sparitcus she led her band of followers against the invincible Roman legions on the field of Battle only to be destroyed in a hopeless battle against the iron-might of Rome.
Sounds cool huh? Its got something for history buffs, allot for action movie aficionados, and a whole bunch of inspiration for women and feminists of all stripes!
There is a small article in a popular Archaeology magazine where I learned this from here
So what do you all think, are you psyched to see this flick or what?
Here is a small excerpt from the aforementioned article in the magazine right here
