Got a calender for Christmas. One of the first things I noticed, is that Jan 2 is tagged as "Day after New Year's Day (Scotland and New Zealand)"

Any Scots or Kiwis care to explain that one for me? The only thing I could guess that it's really "Hangover Recovery Day" but the bluenoses won't let you put that on the calendar.

WH, I'm pretty sure it's the day after New Year's everywhere that calls Jan 1 New Year's. What am I missing here?

The biggest holiday I celebrate is Super Bowl Sunday.

It's a political thing in the UK. So many Scots took that day off to recover from their over excess of drinking that the government caved in and made it official...

Don't know about New Zealand though...

Those are interesting Holidays, but they don't appear on my calendar. Do you know of any other other official holidays that are relatively unknown (except to calendar makers and the people who celebrate them)

In NZ we have public Holidays for Christmas Day and the day after. Also New Years day and the day after. :)

Boxing Day I can understand, but couldn't you have at least come up with a better name for "The Day after New Year's Day?"

St. Olaf's day.
Blue Monday.
The Day the Music Died.
Cheese Curd on a Stick Day.
Bologna Day (celebrated in a town near where they make Spam - honest.)

How many do you need, Harold, and why are you peeking ahead at your calendar?

It has no real name... I just checked a couple of calenders and there is no name.... just a red number like they give public holidays or weekends. :)

It's not really peeking ahead to notice that Jan 2 is a holiday when the calendar is in a frame with January showing.

(I did peek ahead to see the full sized art work for each month.)

T.H., Do you know how Jan 2 came to be a holiday? Was it the influence of Scottish settlers, a concession to a tradition of national excess on new year's day, or what?

It appears to be a bank holiday, instated to give those hard-working bank employees more 4-day weeks than anybody else.

Don't Forget...

Government Enrichment Day in the U.S......April 15th!
Harley-Davidson Birthday.....August 31!

:D

Don't know how it came about.... just happens. :)

Well, Columbus Day on my calendar is now Indigenous Peoples Day.

Down with European oppressors!!!!!!! No Day for Columbus.

Now that's just nuts. What the European settlers did after Columbus' voyages are debatable, but don't lay it all at Columbus' feet.

My calendar lists April 23 as "Administrative Professionals' Day." I guess "Secretaries' Day" fell victim to the PC police.

May 17, "Armed Forces Day." Never heard of it.

August 4, "Civic Holiday (Canada)." Guess that's our northern friends' version of Labor Day. Nope, wait, their "Labour Day" is listed on September 1 right along with ours. Odd.

Gosh, that's been a holiday for a long time now. We don't do anything special for it, but we like it anyway. :) (hubby being in the military and all)

"FUCK! What a Hangover! Day" just didn't seem appropriate maybe?
