I am so ready for Christmas. I have my shopping done, I only need a few more things then I'm going to start decorating (after Thanksgiving, of course).

I'm also on a quest for perfect Holiday music! So post your favorite Holiday song (Christmas songs, Snowy songs, etc. Funny, Serious, or Playful).

As far as whole cd's that I like for Christmas, although I'm not a big Nsync fan, I like their Christmas cd (borrowed from my sister, I wouldn't buy Nsync!). I really don't like Mariah Carey, but I do like her Christmas cd also.

My all time favorite Holiday song is Sleigh Ride. I would start singing last year whenever it came on at the store I used to work at! "Just hear those sleigh bells ringling, jing, jing, jingling too. Come on it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you."

i love old school Christmas music

anything by Bing Crosby

It is too early for christmas threads!!!

Its not even thanksgiving yet!

But to answer your question ohiobbw, I like that one song..."Rockin around the Christmas Tree" or AC/DC's Mistress for Christmas.

Oh...cant forget Weird Al....Christmas at Ground Zero and The night Santa Went Crazy....:D

My favorite Christmas song is, "Grandma got ran over by a reindeer". It reminds me, after holday shopping, that the pack of reindeer has ran over me. It also is a reminder that I will feel the same way fighting the crowds to return all the crap that people that "think" they know me have gotten me. I do appreciate the gesture but just how much thought really went into that lamp with a male leg as a base???? Just send me a card, they are easier to return.

If you like instrumentals I highly recomend the Trans-Siberian orchestra. They are phenomenal

Trans-Siberian Orchestra. My brother bought me the cd last year and I loved it. I normally don't care for the rock-type Xmas music but this one is very good.

Yeah....well it beats the hell out of the statue and fountain that we got one year. It was a statue of a man pissing in the fountain.
OOOPS, my bad.........that was no statue, that was my Uncle Roy after our Christmas dinner.

I will trade you one, unused, lamp with a male leg as a base (and not even the good leg and yes it has hair on it) for your fountain. Is it a deal? I will even consider trading for Uncle Roy.

My favorites:

The Miser Brother's songs .. *kg - where are you??*
O Holy Night

and last but definately not least

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
and
I saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus

Ohboy...

As far as traditional "Christmas songs" I'd have to say Carol of the Bells is my favourite...sung well by a choir, it's an absolutely breathtaking number!

I love so many of the seasonal songs...such simple but beautiful melodies! "Snow, snow", "Oh tannunbaugh", "Oh Holy Night", "Silver Bells"...I really do love them all, and love to go carolling even though I don't do "Christmas" if people get picky about it...lol :)

I also love irreverent ones like Grandma Got Run and Something's In the Chimeny (three hails to Dr. Demento!)

There is an absolutely hilarious lesbian band called Venus Envy. They did a christmas album remaking a lot of old ones into things like "The 12 Gays of Christmas" and "I'll Be a Homo for Christmas" They are actually beautiful singers, and the songs keep you in stitches too!

But on "my side of the house", my favourite Yule songs are
"The Holly and the Ivy" and "Winter's Children"

BB!

Destroy my innocene?? Girl, that was done long ago......:D by my own hand. Err, I mean my own two hands....

No wait. That didnt sound right either....Ahhh, you get the idea.:p

I really love traditional Christmas songs:
My fave is White Christmas by Bing Crosby,
and I like Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire by Nat King Cole; and Let it Snow by ??? (not sure who does it but like the song)

The only one I am really not fond of is little drummer boy.

The Trans-Siberian orchestra is awesome! (So nice just to pop it in after a long, cold and busy day! Very relaxing during those mad Christmas rushes!) ;)

christmas songs

i have tapes that i play of all sorts of wierd christmas songs and stuff i recorded over 20 yrs ago (wow!) and i play them every year. my kids (adults now) love them.
i recorded them off the radio when we used to get doctor demento.

Depends on where you are.

In the UK one of the songs which always gets lots of airtime in December is Slade's 'So Here It Is- Merry Christmas.' I don't know if it has even been heard in the US for twenty years.

Then there are the carols. My personal favourites are 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' and 'Stille Nacht' (sp?).

It is too early for Christmas, but I'll play

Happy Xmas (War is Over)
John Lennon

(Happy Xmas Kyoko
Happy Xmas Julian)

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Xmas

Do I have to pick a "favorite" ?? :) I personally think that the music is one of the best parts about Christmas. Lots of quiet melodies and soaring lines that allow you to take out of them what you want....so unpretenious. And yes, the Dr. Demento songs are still classics !!

BTW, Mae....try looking for the Mannheim Steamroller albums. If you like renditions of songs that aren't so *holiday* like, you might like them. Their stuff is very different from the usual Christmas frivolity. Very quiet and introspective.

I have been a bit fan of Slade since i heard their first album many, many years ago. It was the red cover Live album. i never heard of the Christmas song. I will have to see if i can find it.
