I would love to be able to say how sorry I am for the poor young 13 year old girl who lost her life a day after a hockey puck <deflected off the glass barrier> hit her in the forehead. She would have been 14 today <3-20, 2002>. Go in God's grace and be forever loved, Brittany.

A real tragedy for the young girl and her family as well as the poor player who hit the puck last.

This was in the Globe & Mail

Among all the other issues surrounding this event, I think this is the most poingent:

"The only word from the Cecil family was a news release stating they were donating their daughter's organs in the hope that others will be blessed as much as they were by her life."

This family is a stones throw from me. They live in a small town, not much more than a village, good decent people.
Like most Hockey fans, while it's always hoped that this never happens, the fact remains being hit by a puck is always a possibility, and I would think and hope that they along with others that love this sport don't over react and make demands that would ruin the game.
I began playing Hockey in the 60's as a youth and have seen good improvements over the years, and when the IHL and NHL first began putting up the plexi-glass people thought it would ruin their view but it didn't, so maybe they can raise it a few more feet and something like this will never happen again.
This area comes together in times like this just as most places do and the gift of life they have made possible by donating her organs will make her memory worthwhile and live forever as those who receive them have shildren and their childrens children who otherwise might never be born.
