Okay, I got this email this morning, and I'm interested to know if people think its some sortof hoax or something. It sounds a little bit fishy to me, personally...

Hello,

My name is David Ancell. I am a UK based events manager setting up an
exhibition on erotic art. The exhibition is going to be material rich
and in my opinion will be a great venue for people to expand their
interest and knowledge of erotic arts.If you are open to featuring your
audio stories work in this exhibition please email me on my details below
so I can provide you with more detail regarding the material I am hoping
to feature. Even if you feel you would not like to do so, I would
apprechiate a reply so I can remove your name from our 'wish list' of
content.

We do not require pictures and we have no intention to publish your
real identity at the exhibition(unless of course you'd like us
to!).Initial thoughts are that the erotic element of the exhibition will be a huge
hit as it isn’t widely used in the UK. Apologies for making contact
directly with you, I hope I haven’t caused any offence, after
countless hours researching the internet and only finding low quality material
I was amazed when I came across you work.

Thank you and I hope to hearing from you soon!

Sounds very fishy to me. Did it come from an identifiable email address? was it sent to just you or many others? I don't know that I would respond to an email like this one without being able to identify its source.

bi, you gotta be more careful about those mailing lists... :>

i personally would consider it junk mail and/or a phishing attempt.

i would deffinantly check to see if it was just you it was sent to, although it's not that hard to blind copy it to everyone so you wouldn't know anyway. you could always ask what he liked about your work and see what he says.

Yeah, thanks guys, I think I'm gonna just write it off as some sortof hoax as well.

have you checked it at snopes.com???? snopes has a pretty comprehensive list of hoax emails... just try searching their site for "erotique" or the guy's name or some of the other keywords from the email.

but, yeah, anything that's international like that is immediately suspect to me.

Yeah, well, he sent me a message through the literotica message system thingy. But, thanks, I'll check that website. :)

i see... i just saw the part where he said he was a UK based event planner.

it COULD be legit, but maybe check with others who have submitted audio stories. odds are they've been solicited too and if it's legit, they've been solicited many times over the years. still suspicious to me though.

if it IS legit and you DO participate... will you remember me when you're famous?

*laughs* Yeah, I decided to send the guy an email basically saying "Prove it."
And, don't worry, I'd remember my oh-so-humble beginnings and all you little people. *giggles* Wow, I'm such a snob today. :)

well, if that means you get up on a pedestal, there's a number of people who'd be interested in up the skirt pics... :D

I knew there was some reason that I should've worn a skirt today.

i assume this means you're not wearing a skirt today... is there anything else you're not wearing? inquiring minds want to know.

*giggles* Well...*blushes* nevermind.

if this david dude actually was serious about your work then he should have contacted you by phone, it's called being proffesional, obviously he doesn't know what that means. I say it's a scam, and if it's not then he's not a good businessman anyway.

Well, considering I don't have my phone number up next to my stories, that would be a little bit impossible, hehe.
But, yeah, I still think its a scam.

So, this is the email I recieved as a response to my doubtful inqueries:

Dear Bisexplicit

Thanks for your mail, sorry I've not replied sooner we have had alot of good interest.

I would just like to tell you more about our company for you to gain a better understanding into the Erotique 2006 planned Exhibition and our organisation.

I am from a company called Antfarm Ltd. We are primarily a media company based in Birmingham in the UK. Please visit www.antfarmmedia.com but this is an old site which is currently being re-developed to show the new company structure and the diversity of our activities.

Over the last couple of years we have built a reputation for developing media products but have also started event management, working with different organisations, companies and individuals to plan and deliver successful events. Over the last few months, one of our fellow directors relative has asked us to look into the opportunities for putting on an exhibition to showcase more unusual methods and types of erotic art. This will include paintings, poetry and audio erotic stories - the idea is to focus more on erotic art which involves interpretation, imagination and senses. We are currently getting in touch with a wide range of individuals who produce such erotic art to allow us to gain a better understanding of what is being produced around the world. The exhibition will rely on good sponsorship to get the necessary funds to exhibit the work, we are currently approaching potential sponsors to asses levels of interest.

We are currently developing an online erotic website which aims to showcase a large selection of underutilised erotic types of work. We are particularly keen to focus strongly on audio content as we view it as being one of the best sensory based media. We feel as though audio erotic content does not get the exposure or credit, it deserves. We have had a great response from creators of such material from around the world, who are excited about more exposure for audio erotic material. Content creators identities can either be showcased or remain completely anonymous, depending on their wish.

We feel the quality of your work is fantastic and would love to showcase your existing work, but would also look forward to more material in the future. The girlfriend of one of our company directors is a great follower of erotica and different types of material, she is the inspiration and motivation behind both the website and the exhibition - however everyone at Antfarm is very excited with the projects. We hope to make the website, free to use however depending on funding and sponsorship developments for the exhibition. We might have to charge a small fee to help raise funds for projects, such as the exhibition. As this is a possibility we would be happy to offer a fee to showcase your existing content on our site. Please be aware however that although these projects are being assisted by Antfarm Ltd as a favour to the director, the project is being funded privately so funds are very limited.

We hope you will be excited to be a part of our project and look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best Regards

David Ancell

i'm in no way suggesting you proceed blindly or throw caution to the wind...

now, having gotten two cliches out of the way...

it COULD be legit and i say that because these events DO happen and SOMEONE has to organize them. i used to do event production and it sounds a lot like a letter i'd send out. of course, what good is a scam if it doesn't sound legit, right?

i dunno what to tell you... go with your gut... if you feel the slightest bit aprehensive, just let it slide. check with the BBB for info about the company name, see if they can provide references, stuff like that.

That definately seems like an auto reply message. Since it made no real direct reference to you or anything you have said or done. It is a generic response with your name added.

Its possably a hoax, But from reading the message you posted it seems like someone did thier homework. At least they mention your " work" . But all in all it could be just random.

I would reply and see what they say.... If they mention $$$ up front from you then its a hoax.

Good point. Also, ask him to email you their standard artist/contributor contract. They should have one if they're soliciting work, or be able to provide you with one quickly. My guess is (providing it's legit) they're looking for exclusive rights to your work for little or no cash, and then will turn around and use the work to make a bunch of money.
