Not too long ago my boss noticed a growth on the side of my face. One that I have been watching for a while. I have had it checked out a couple of times with the M.D.'s telling me it's nothing to worry about. It's a Skin Nodule.

Then my boss asked one of the M.D.'s on staff to check it out. He looked at it then insisted on taking a sample. Not a big deal, a needle Biopsy done at the Nurses Station with half the staff looking on. The results came back yesterday. Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Skin Cancer. A decent sized one at that. It's roughly half an inch in diameter and raised maybe a quarter inch.

It doesn't hurt, (It itches instead.) It's slowly growing but not too bad. Now comes the good and the bad.

My health insurance is changing at the end of this month. The new insurance is not accepted by my doctor. The doctor that did the Biopsy hasn't charged me nor has he filed anything. It's all quiet.

So now I'm going to wait for the new insurance to kick in. When it has I will go to my new M.D. and hand him the biopsy report while asking for a referal. That way I can get this damned thing taken care of.

And people wonder why I am cynical about health insurance?

Squamous cell isn't that bad, Rob. The stuff to be afraid of is melanoma. Cat's will just come off with either liquid nitogen or a hot needle . . . when he gets the insurance straightened out, of course. That better be the next administrations #2 priority, dammit!

Christ, Cat. :(

Sending lots and lots of healing vibes your way.

Not a big deal Rob. Easily treatable as long as it's taken care of fairly early. (Thankfully it's not a Melanoma.) It only causes problems when it's left untreated for long periods of time.

My only concern, and a minor one at that is a misdiagnosis. If this is instead a Melanoma then I might have problems. (I trust the M.D. who made the diagnosis though.)

I just have to get it taken care of and rechecked.

No big deal or not I *hug* you and  you lots and send lots of good health insurance vibes!

My Dad, who was a lifeguard in Palm Springs and loved to get a dark tan, had several of these removed during his lifetime with absolutely no complications. The worst parts are the insurance carriers, the wondering and the waiting.

All my good thoughts are with you.

Yep those are the hard parts, although I'm not to worried about the diagnosis. The M.D. who did that, on his own time by the way, is an incredibly gifted Oncologist.

The part that is truly annoying is the health insurance. I have to wait until the insurance switches over to get this treated. (Otherwise it becomes a pre-existing condition.)

Don't you just love (read as 'hate') the legalistic jargon?

I suppose it can't be avoided in a private system, but shit, this is a real person with a real health problem (no matter whether major or minor). The bottom line ought not to be legal contracts, but getting the condition treated.

I had one of those removed from my nose in 85, not that big a deal ;)
Hope yours goes as easy :)
