Okay the city of West Palm Beach is having a minor little problem. While we have always had murders lately it's been getting outrageouse(sp). It's gotten to the point where we have at least two shootings a week now, all of them quite blatant as though the people doing it don't worry about getting caught. (Maybe with good reason, not one has been caught this year so far.)

Now the City of West Palm Beach has decided to stop the violence. Instead of doing such things like increasing police presence in the neighborhoods, (we can't do that, it might make the N.A.A.C.P. upset.) they have decided to do a gun buy back program. Unfortunately they have decided to do this on the cheap. I wonder how they decided on the prices?

SeaCat, I am glad you brought this to my attention. I agree that the program will not work. However I am prepared to buy back weapons on the folowing schedules:

M-16 A4 or AK-74 in good operating condition $400
Other assault weapon in good operating condition $250
Wildey .475 in good operating condition $200
Other handgun in good operating condition $150
Rifle in good operating condition $100

Cash prices!

If I get a good response to my buy back offer, do not expect to see me in Literotica much as I will be spending a lot of time pricing Ferraris. A good operating condition AK-74 will bring me a MINIMUM of $4,000. The city buy back program is not on the cheap, it is on the INSANE!

Considering how many guns are around, is there enough money to buy that many guns?

You must understand that my operation would not be a classic buy back, but rather a re-cycling type of thing. The cash flows would be very quick and very positive!

Guns don't kill people, people kill people, but monkeys do too (if they've got a gun).

Without a gun, they're pretty friendly. :D

There's only one dangerous animal, but most of the time you have to act as sweet and loving as a cobra.

Uh, RR? I don't understand your post. Could you explain it in a bit more detail please?

I lived in a city where they had a gun buy back. The idea that the city had was to buy back guns and get them off the street. The idea most of the street dwellers had was to turn in crap guns and get a little money toward buying a good gun.

Ol' R. Richard went down to the worst part of the ghetto and bought five guns in the street for an outlay of $285. He then took said guns and turned them in for $1600 [cash, American!]. Net profit $1315. There were other guys who did better than I did, but I still think I was the top white guy dollarwise. I did prevent several people from turning in crap guns for profit so that they could buy better guns.

Anyone who thinks that a gun buyback will stop crime also believes in the Easter bunny.

Actually the definitive word in this situation is contained in the ancient Coasters song "Run, Red Run."

Mason the Chimpanzee to Phil the Chimpanzee in "Madagascar"

I love those chimps - great movie!

I am curious - do you know ASL? I'm curious if Phil is actually doing proper sign language and not just a few "naughty" things tossed in?

But does guns kill guns?

Nopes.

According to these premises, there is one people killing factor, but no gun killing factor. That means that eventually, guns will outnumber people. Then they can take over the world. It's a cospiracy, I tell you.

Ah, I think I'd call that a gun improvement program

Buy Back Program

I don't know anything about the specific situation in West Palm but as a general rule the police are perfectly content to let the criminal element kill each other off. It is very efficient and cost effective.

When an innocent, like the little girl in the article, gets hurt, then the authorities have to appear to be doing something. Buying back guns appears to be a good thing to do and appeases several groups.

The problem is when the Law Abiding Citizens decide to start defending themselves. If this were to happen then the criminals wouldn't be able to safely ply their trade. Why they might even get hurt and we can't have that now can we?

Actually the peg on which the gun control people hand their argument against allowing citizens to defend themselves is that the poor dead guy who tried to break into your house and maybe kill you and rape your wife and kids will not get a fair trial. In many people's eyes, the criminal's need for a fair trail outweighs the safety of the honest citizen.

I heard a quote once, I'm not sure by whom, which I always thought spoke well of this. "My rights are defended by Judge Colt and Smith and Wesson Attornies at Law."

Some signs I have seen which seemed to let people know of the attitudes of the home owners:

Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be persecuted.

If you are found here at night you will be found here in the morning.

Warning, trespassers will be violated.

Warning, property protected by hungry PittBull.

Homeowner has Rabies.

Never mind the dog, beware of owner.

Nothing in here is worth your life, is it?

You forgot one:

They can take my gun when the pry it from my dead hand...

Nah that's usually a bumper snicker.

(Personaly I can't stand that Bumper Sticker or comment. Not because I don't believe in the idea behind it but because I don't neccasarily agree with the ideas of the people who have made it so popular.)
