Are you aware of Prep? Have a prescription? In the closet and don't want to have these pills in your medicine cabinet?

Good news. Prep is already 99% effective and this shot improves on that.
FDA approves first injectable HIV prevention drug
Rather than as a daily pill, the newly approved drug, Apretude, is given to patients every two months.

While gains have been made in PrEP use over the past several years, only 25 percent of the 1.2 million people for whom PrEP is recommended were prescribed the treatment last year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

And even better news, the work on the covid vaccines has been going along hand-in-hand with mRNA HIV vaccine research and these are showing much promise.

I'm very aware and have been with men on prep... Problem I see is, it makes many men (in my experience) far more promiscuous than they would otherwise be. So many other STIs to worry about, I'd like to see what the actual numbers are compared to the pre-prep era.

Well aware of prep. My girlfriend and I got tested before our first meeting and we have been faithful ever since.

Yeah there is some of that with the big boogeyman of HIV taken out of the picture and the HPV vaccine available for cancer prevention. You see even some big advocates/authors in the community dismissing the others as usually being dealt with easily and inconsequential. But also advocating frequent testing to prevent spread.

But what's scary is the closeted bi guy playing bareback who hasn't heard of Prep because messaging on it hasn't been great.

I have to admit that being on Prep has made me more promiscuous, but I am frequently tested for other STD's. I started taking Prep a little over four years ago when I was in a relationship in which we were both interested in bareback sex. We had tried it a couple of times and absolutely loved it before I started Prep, but at that stage of our relationship we were both still having sex with others and it was just too risky. After we started on Prep, he fucked me bareback all the time and we didn't have to worry about HIV even though we both fucked other partners together and separately.

After we split up I guess I went a little bit crazy, going to gay bars and sex clubs where I made my ass available to anyone who wanted to fuck me. I rented a private room at Sydney Sauna, had myself strapped in to a sling chair, and spent six hours having my ass and mouth filled by anyone who wandered by. After about six months of behavior like that I finally came to my senses after my girlfriend told me she was going to leave me if I didn't knock it off.

So yes, Prep did make me feel invincible, and I still feel that way to some extent, but I'm not taking nearly as many chances as I did during that period.

I'll get bare with strangers once there's something for all STDs/STIs. Prevention of HIV is grand, don't get me wrong. The HPV vaccine is going to save lots of people heartache and suffering. Get back to me when there's a herpes vaccine. Nothing says I engage in reckless behavior than a herpes flare up. I'd rather not have to worry about that.

Yeah it's just a bummer. A friend of mine got herpes the night he lost his virginity AND he was wearing a condom. Just do your best kiddos... ESPECIALLY if you're a closeted bi guy sneaking around your wife's back. Nothing gets you slapped with alimony payments faster than gonorrhea of the mouth from a dirty glory hole.

That's quite scary.
Glory holes look very high risk.
I've only ever looked at the videos.
Scary that your friend got an infection even with protection.
