Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of Lit stories set in a historical setting. Does anybody like to write/read such stories?

I had a fantastic idea the other day for a story set in the U.S. Civil War. I'll probably write it if I ever get my first story finished and submitted. Historically inaccurate? Slightly. Erotic? Yessirree! :D

What if the British won and we were all under a dictatorship (not that the two Bush's didn't do a good job of that already)?
It would be a 1984 type erotica, where the whole world is one big reality show.

Not that bad under the Union Jack, Fantasies_only. ;)

I've toyed with historical fiction settings several times. They can work quite well if you're familiar enough with the period to be comfortable describing it. Trying to research-as-you-write can be a hassle. Sex is sex, hasn't changed much since Day 1, so the historical fiction aspects will factor in mostly in the supporting story.

I couldn't tell you the name of it now, but I once read a really hot sex scene involving a guy who had just enrolled in the army to go and fight in WWI, and a girl from the town farewelled him in a very special way. I think, in a way, it makes it a lot more erotic with the way casual sex was so taboo back then. Not to mention how the guy's future affected the context. Things were differant at the beginning of that war. To be a soldier was to be a hero, and to see the world cloaked in glory. Nobody really understood the horror of it. It ended a hell of a lot of lives, and devestated most of the ones it 'spared'.

This last fling felt like the man's last taste of life's goodness. Sad, yet wonderful all at once.

On a similar note, one of the best stories I ever read was about a young girl in 1950's England. She went to a dance at the local US Army base and she ends up having unprotected sex with two black American soldiers. A basic story, but made much more interesting by the different way casual sex and interracial sex was looked upon back then. Historical stories aren't just about the props, but about the different moral values of the times.

Snoopercharmbrights, I've been to the north of England. In some places, it still is 1851.

It would really just be North America, which is more believable anyway.

If this is an exaggeration, only the appearance of facts must be accurate, not the reality of facts.
When Elizabeth the first was little, she and her family followed the teachings of Queen Victoria who fought Canadian Parliament (France wasn't a country yet) to abolish sodomy.
Now there were many assassinations back then.
What if the mother of Queen Elizabeth the first was killed before her daughter was ever born?
You could make this a time travel story, which doesn't have to have real facts.

PS: What do you think Huckleberry Finn in a dress and a shirtless black slave did alone on a raft crossing the Mississippi river?

My "Witch Trials" story is history-themed. I think it works pretty well :heart::kiss:....Morgana

Just to put present conflicts into perspective, we are bitter about the soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, but consider the Somme: SIXTY THOUSAND {60,000} men died on the Allies side alone in the first couple of hours of that battle.

I write A LOT of historical fiction, though many are published off site on another forum that deals with an erotic historical fiction called "Pulp Erotica". This was the porn of the 1920's-1940's. Since pictures of nude women could not be published publicly, men got their much needed "porn" by reading it. I write stories as if they were written in that time period, but be forewarned, pulp erotica is kind of dark because it is NOT politically correct...I mean it was 1920-1940.

They can be challenging to write, but also very fun...and free too.

But there is a downside. I get a lot of readers who are well versed in history and will freely challenge you on this fact or that. I have defended my writing many times because the research is there, but it gets tiring getting comments on historical questions and no real critiques of the story-line or writing style. That can be frustrating.

I enjoy historical erotica (especally any form of witch trials or medieval theme), but fear I would never be able to do it justice. I even have a story idea of my own set in Victorian times of my character inventing the first vibrator to "cure female hysteria" years before the first was came about.

And to the one that posted about the British winning the war... I somehow doubt we would have had to worry about "a dictatorship after the CIVIL WAR" as mentioned by Pen.

As I said, it's an exaggeration.
I was thinking it would be a time travel erotica, where the protagonist goes to different time periods, changes things to his own advantage, and fucks all the women of historical importance to this timeline.
Why do you think the Mona Lisa is grinning?

I post quite a bit of historical work here. It's GM, though, so that may be why you haven't looked at it. On Thursday, I will be finishing up on posting of a series of East Asia setting stories running from ancient China up through modern Japan.

And, if menage interests you, I have a 21-chapter novel here, Wolf Creek, which spans events in American history from the turn of the twentieth century through the 1970s, which characters in it who are "like" such figures as Ernest Hemingway, Anne Morrow Lindbergh (and Charles), J.C. Penny, Henry Ford, and a couple of randy politicians (taken from real ones connected by their antics to my own family tree).

Actually, this thread has given me a good idea for a story. A sort of "Gone with the Wind" parody about a southern belle with an insatiable sexual appetite. Having fucked her way across the breadth and width of the Confederacy, she can no longer be satisfied by the average southern gentleman. So she finds it necessary to take slaves from the cotton fields to bed.

All I need now is a good title. As the story will be semi-humorous, I need a somewhat ironic (and preferably pun-oriented) title. Any suggestions?........Carney

Scarlett, White and Black
Done with the Wind
Rhett Butler, and his slaves, did it.

Since it's themed and all would Gone With the Cotton Pickers be racist? lol

It's not erotica, but Harry Turtledove and Richard Dreyfuss (yes, that Richard Dreyfuss) wrote a fascinating alt history novel a few years back called The Two Georges, where there was no Revolutionary War (there was a peaceful solution to the issues between America and the mother country), and the colonists remained British subjects.

Fast forward to the 1990's. No cars; they have car-like steamers. No jet travel; they have blimps. Trains are the main mode of travel. A pro-independence terrorist group steals a painting that is the holy relic of America, and a detective from what would have been Los Angeles has to run across North America chasing it down. It's an amazing work; I recommend. :D

I was looking for co-writers for a story in such a theme. I had posted that in the sexual rp section, but I guess I should have looked here too.

So, if anyone's interested, I wanted to do a story set either during the times of Louis XVI and Marie Antionette, or perhaps even in one of the ancient empires. Would prove for some fun I'm sure for those who especially like cosplay in period costumes.

The Chinese practically invented orgies (famous for the anal phallus), so they might be the best to wright about.
If you just want innuendo, Scotland is a good place to start.
Egyptian women are very skilled in the art of seduction.
Don't go the Greek and Roman rout which is too overused.

Egyptian sounds good actually.

Yet, I also mentioned the French because during that era orgies amongst the aristocracy were infamous.
Anyways, if anyone's interested I suppose I can start up a story.
