Are any of you folks involved in historical re-enacting? I am fascinated by that, and would love to do it. I intend to...one day. *sigh*

Anyway, I was just looking at some of the links I have regarding that topic and got to wondering if any of my fellow Litizens are re-enactors.

Hello Blue Daisy...

I know that Haz guy on the"Anyone in Ohio" thread is.

Sounds familiar. I think I've discussed the topic with him before. Hmmm....I wonder if I've done this thread in the past. Deja vu! lol

Thanks!

Ok .. my ears were burning .... I better find out who's talking about me ... hehehe

Yes, I do Civil War Reenacting as a Northern Private.

In fact, the AV is actually me.

:)

Ooohhh....my memory DID serve me correctly! I remember now...I once PMd you to ask that very question about your av!! I am way impressed with myself *patting self on back*.....my memory is usually really, really bad! lol

I even recall talking to you about Ohio, and I think I mentioned that we might be moving to Dayton. Well, we won't be. lol Looks like we'll be staying right here.

Would you mind sharing your favorite (if you have any) links about history and/or historical reenacting?

Thanks!

I don't usually look at stuff online.

I am more of a book reader. I Have a couple of good books which talk about facts/trivia on the war ... and also several diaries of soldiers during the war.

If you're interested, I can give you a small list.

:)

Sure! Thanks.

I'm a book reader, too, but I use the internet a lot for things like this. I find I get a better variety than going to the library (I'm too cheap to buy most books...lol)

Bumping my own thread.

Surely Hazguy isn't the only historical re-enactor or reanactment afficianado on Lit....

after seeing that AV of yours Blue .. I may be more than just a reenactor ... I may be a fan of those breasts of yours .. wow ...

;)

oh, yea .. book list .. I got distracted there ...

Andersonville by Robert Vaughn
"Co. Aytch" by Sam R. Watkins (you will like this one ... southern perspective)
Anything by Webb Garrison is good ...
Soldiering - The Civil War Diary of Rice C. Bull

I actually saw a "Dummies" book on the Civil War, but have not read it LOL

Hope that gives you a good start. :)

*blush* Aw, thanks. That's sweet.

And thanks for the book list. I appreciate the info.

I've never been to an event where there was any reenacting, but I would if I had the chance. History is one of my favorite past times, especially the Civil War. ;)

awwww man ...

If we had started this thread at the beginning of the "Season" then I would have posted the schedule of events for around here (NE Ohio).

The 19th Ohio usually attends 1 to 2 events per month ... incuding some down South .. the larger events.

I call "The Season" from April or May to November ... with the Remembrence Day festivities in Gettysburg being the end of season.

Thanks for posting, Arden!

I haven't done any reenacting, but I did go to an event at the Alamo some time back (oh, I guess it was almost 2 years ago). I keep thinking I'll get back downtown (where the Alamo is! lol) each time they do one, but I just don't seem to make it. One of these days....lol

I LOVE history. My favorite period is the time of westward expansion. I love the wagon train and western pioneer era. I guess the Civil War period would be my next favorite.

Thanks again for your post. I hope to find other re-enacting/history buffs here!

That would have been neat! Not that I'd have been able to go to any of them in Ohio (sheesh, I don't even make it to the ones in my own town, much less get out of state for them!). But it would have been good info in case anyone else could have gone.

Thanks for posting again!!

Half of my senior year history class involved the theme "Expanding America'... exactly what you're talking about. I loved it.

;)

I'd have loved it, too! Sounds like it would be right up my alley!

My point exactly ... I enjoy getting people to come and watch me play ... (hmm .. does that have a double meaning???)

Its cool watching people I have invited to see a reenactment go OOohhh .. and ahhh .. when they see what we do. Then usually the questions start ... and I enjoy showing people what that part of history is about.

:)

Hmm....that most definitely could have a double meaning, seeing as how this IS Lit! lol

That must be so awesome...to do that and have people be interested in the subject after seeing it. So cool!
