As an artist, I'm all for art of all kinds. However, two things seem a little unnerving. The article mentions that this artist has numerous assistants that help him create his artwork. Is he even creating his artwork? Apparantly not, since some of his work consists of preserved animals. hmmm.

On a positive note, people are buying art. It's very encouraging to see another artist making money in this economy.

A shark soaking in formaldehyde is not art; it is a curiosity - but it's not art. Now getting some card-carrying dumb ass to pay $17 million dollars for that curiosity - THAT is a work of art!

I hope his other works, or that of his assistants, are more than glorified taxidermy.
