At last, after the longest still birth in literotica history (I just made that up ;) ), my first story (Lingerie re-fitting, Lesbian http://english.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=250533) has been re-posted. It was originally withdrawn because one person in 12,000 accused me of plagiarism. I did not copy it from anyone. Its all my own sorry words, patiently edited by kbate. After a very lengthy review (where I offered a full editing audit spanning 2 years!) its finally been re-posted with an acknowledgement of inspiration to appease the whinger.

Like the first posting, I have received some wonderful messages of appreciation and encouragement, but unfortunately one person (apparently a different one) has again posted a public message insinuating that it is a copy. Gasp.... I find this very deflating. I've deleted the public message but would ask other authors advice. Should I bother responding to the poster and his accusation or just forget about it?

Hopefully I can get a critical threshold of positive feedback (I think you all know what I mean by that) to inspire me to continue the story as the first is deliberately a open ended tease and I always intended to continue it, but felt I had to keep the length manageable.

Thanks

Forget the troll. I'd say 'fuck 'em' but ewww.

They have to be very specific to accuse you of plagiarism. Just the accusation isn't enough. If they can't point to exactly the story you supposedly stole, it's nothing more than libel.

They need evidence.

strange!!! Is it so close to that other story in premise or something!? Huh... I don't get it... ? Where is this other story that they think it's like? Is it on Lit?

Some trolls just can't leave it alone. They don't feel important unless they can piss on someone else instead of their own shoes.

I'd say monitor but resist reacting. As Rob said, without evidence, they are just baiting you, trying to make you miserable. If they keep it up, they have to have proof, and you've already proved yourself.

Someone's just looking to feel mighty at your expense. Don't let 'em.

The story sapphicphile's story is allegedly plagiarised from:

http://english.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=14681

The two are similar in some ways, but certainly not in the manner the accuser claimed. I do not believe (especially as I saw the unedited raw text copy of the original) that this story is or ever was stolen.

Sapphic, I am glad your story is back up and I am sorry you had to go through this hassle to get it back up. I would delete the public comment with the accusations of plagiarism.

I find the whole thing terribly odd. Having written several stories for the same category and knowing many others who've done the same, I can't think of one instance that something like this has happened to them. Yet, it's happened twice to you with the same story?

That's just fucking weird.

Congratulations on your victory, and delete any trolling public comments, as is your goddamn right! :rose:

For some people, they entertain the idea that their idea is so terribly original and singular that any story with even remote similarity must bne a copy of their work. Ther eis little that is truly original or singular, for the simple reason there is so much out there. Basic scenarios, even complex ones, have generally been done beofre in some ofrm.

Plagirism is the specific act of stealing another author's work. Accustations of it, which cannot be substanitated, should be grounds for a ban of the poster. It's the most hurtful acusation that can be leveled at an author and while people do steal, unless you can back the accusation throughly, it simply shouldn't be made.

Delet the PC and do your best to forget abou tit, imho.

I've also been accused of plagarism by another author before. I felt pretty upset about it and went thru alot of time writing a long letter to the other author that my works are my own and I was sorry if it appeared similar.

As it turned out, it was one sentance out of a 15k word story that was similar... sortof similar.

And after a little digging I realized that the other story I had supposedly copied from had been posted 2 months AFTER mine!

My advice, continue to write your stories and delete the comments from trolls.

I actually had one of my books plagiarized about 13 years ago. Somebody had turned it from a technical book to a technical training course, but the material was obviously mine. I phone the publisher of that particular book and said "!!!!!" They said "Send us an analysis that shows this and we'll get on it." I did a 5-page comparison pointing to the commonalities. While the text was changed slightly, it was visibly my writing and my organization. They'd even stolen the few jokes I'd put in the text. I sent the analysis to the publisher, concluding by saying that I was probably the only person in the world who could identify the source of the raw material for one chapter in particular and I would be glad to supply additional analysis as needed. The publisher said "Clearest case of plagiarism we've seen" and nailed the thief for $20,000 in statutory damages in about a month. :) :) :)

Just having the same idea isn't plagiarism. You really have to copy everything.

Tell the troll to go fuck themselves with a chain saw.

Many thanks for all your messages of suppport. Much appreciated. And I'm glad I sort your advice as its very tempting to take the bait from trollers.

And special thanks to kbate for standing up for me; your reward or punishment (depending on which way you look at it ;) ) is to get first refusal on editing the next installment!

p.s. Hello Colleen :) Big fan of yours.... you really DID did inspire me. (Author blushes and scurries off to cyber-cupboard-space).

No need to scurry :)

One reason I am on the Ah is because I came here a long time ago to kinda see if I could get to know some of the authors that Inspired me :)

*HUGS*

RVC'd, sapphicphile. I also compared the two stories. Might be a similar idea, but no way in hell was that plagarized. You have talent, she doesn't. Period. So...when did you say the next installment would be? (Sitting in my chair, poised to finish the job. :D ) Great job! ~Minx

Thx for your rap Minx :) I guess I'm enjoying my first feedback as an author and as you all know, 99.9% of it makes it all worthwhile.

I've already started punching in a few ideas for the next installment..... so hold on ;)
