Hidden in a remote valley in the kingdom of Tiarn lay a secretive temple, known about by very few in the outside world and seen by almost none. The inhabitants of the temple cult of Lamosia consisted only of twelve virgin sorceresses, a usually steady number. Each death in the temple was followed sooner or later by a new arrival, the new blood brought forth by the magic of the goddess imbuing the temple rather than by any male help, as no males or any outsiders were allowed anywhere in the vicinity of the temple. All of the Lamosian sorceresses were blessed with beauty unheard of in the rest of the kingdom and magical abilities, which they kept themselves secluded in order to protect, their lives only filled with worshipping the goddess and honing their own magic. Virtually everyone outside of the valley thought they were merely a myth or a story, not even worth thinking about let alone looking for, which kept themselves and their power safe from anyone else who would seek to use it.
Approaching just twenty years of age, Erys was the second youngest of the current sorceresses, still a novice in training but keen to prove herself. Waking unusually early when the sun was merely starting its journey over the distant hills Erys crept out of bed and hurried into the main chamber of the temple, seeing a chance to work on a new potion she'd been experimenting with before anyone else awoke and interfered. Smoothing the sheer white dress she wore down around her slim frame, her brown curls tumbling over her shoulders, Erys rushed into the kitchen and pulled various jars of herbs and ingredients from the shelves ready to begin. Easing the stopper away from one pot she grit her teeth in frustration as she found it empty of a certain flower, which was absolutely essential to what she'd planned to make. She remembered the chief sorceress complaining some of the stores were growing too low after the last and particularly harsh winter, saying that they'd have to wait possibly a month or two more before they could collect replacements.
Thinking quickly Erys considered that if she could slip out and explore further into the forest before the others woke she might be lucky enough to find some more supplies and be back in time that they'd never notice her absence, she could finish her potion and they'd merely be overjoyed with what she'd found and made. She'd been warned never to go out further than the edge of their field alone but had never personally seen another soul outside of the temple residents and, although she heeded the warnings about the outside world, almost doubted anyone else existed.
Rushing out of the temple Erys looked around for the flower she needed, venturing as far as she'd been into the forest but pressing on just a little deeper, convincing herself she'd only need to stray a little further. Wandering ever further Erys was too engrossed in her search to notice she'd walked almost three miles from the temple while barely taking her eyes from the ground. Suddenly realising how high the sun stood in the sky she realised with fright she needed to return to the temple but looking around wasn't sure of the way back.
