Hello foxlady,

First, there's very little that is new under the sun, in any endeavour. Don't let that bother you, just strive to do a better job then the last writer that took a stab at it.

Welcome to every writer's quandry.

OK, so romance stories aren't your thing. Guess what? They're not mine either. So that only leaves about 20 other genre's to try writing in. Just quit making excuses for why you can't write and just sit down at the keyboard and start hammering away. If it's crap, re-write it and keep re-writing it until you are happy with it, or just delete it. The best thing you can do to learn how to write is to simply write. Writers go through a learning curve, just like in anything else. Practice makes perfect.

My suggestion is to not concentrate on what you can't do and instead look for where you interests lie and what you can write about and just go for it. Its not like we are handing out Nobel prizes but literature around here. I promise no one will judge yo
u on what you can't write, but rather what you can write.

Writing erotica is about reaching inside yourself and finding your own passion. What really gets to you and makes you feel like you are on fire. Then try to capture that intense heat and build a story around it. It might be something you already experienced, or something that is a fantasy of yours that you have thought about but might never really do in real life.

Sounds like you need to find a way to relax, let down any inhibitions you may have, and just let the words and thoughts flow freely.

As far as unique ideas, write about what you would enjoy reading. Try to add a little wrinkle or emotional conflict to the story.

Most importantly write the story for yourself, not others, because what you think about the story is more important than what others think.

Without knowing you it's hard to offer much more in the way of suggestions. I have some stories here on Lit and will try to help you in whatever way you feel most comfortable.

Do Nano. You can write Shit and they don't care its about quanity not quality. Then at the end of november, edit the pieces that youve written into something fairly plausible with a lot of heat!

What they said. :cathappy:

Also, no matter how perverse or boring you think it is, write the things you have done in your past. I can guarentee you that at least 5000 people will read and love the boring little quickie in the back seat. ;)

You can have a set up or you can go straight to the sex, most don't care, if they want a set up they find it and read, if they want two words before sex they find it and read.

I do have one suggestion, spell checker, there is supposed to be one either in the forums or as part of the browser. Personally I use the one that came with the google toolbar, when I think about it.

You don't have to be Hemingway, but spelling properly is generally a good idea, mostly in your stories. ;)

Yep. spellchecker and don't assume spellchecker will catch everything. It won't. Get someone to edit or at least read it over for you until you get the nack of it. Don't let your ego get in the way when yout editor makes suggestions. If you can't take suggestive criticism then you maybe you need to take up quilting.

Although all the advice here has been fantastic, this one line is the ultimate goal in my mind of starting off from the start. Don't worry about how good/bad it is, do not try to model it after anybody in particular. Get an idea you think you would like to write about, grab a cup of coffee in the morning when the kids and hubby are not around, and start writing (or evening, or during the day when they're at work...bottom line is take some "ME" time).

In terms of erotica, I write in terms of what turns me on (yes, I am a kinky pervert at times). I first think of a fantasy, then I think about how I would structure it, even sometimes going to the point of writing down an outline so I get the sequence of events correct...then I start writing. For me I imagine how things would play out in my mind if I were watching a play or such, just writing. Don't pay attention to grammar, to punctuation, or even style, just get SOMETHING written! Once it's down then you can start going over it with a fine tooth comb. Read it out loud to make sure it sounds natural, change the grammar/punctuation as needed.

This site has a wealth of information in terms of both written guidelines and guides as well as people. I found a story I absolutely fell in love with and wrote the author. In the end, he has become my proverbial mentor...something he and I never thought about...but it's given me the confidence to post my stories here and when there are bad comments, to look at them and pull out something from them so the next story will be better because of it.

Don't feel bad if you get bad comments! There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of readers here...and you cannot please everybody. Don't even try, the ultimate goal is what YOU want to write...write for yourself and let those that enjoy your works flock to you!

Also mentioned is to let down your barriers. If you feel uncomfortable writing certain words, don't force them, use what you would naturally say. When you read it over and things sound awkward, then you can change them up. If you have trouble saying the word cock/cunt/pussy/dick or some such don't force yourself to use those words unless the situation warrants it. Above all, write what feels comfortable to you and how you would see the situation unfolding.

Good luck!

just to add...ideas are what this forum is all about, so in addition to the variety of genres, you can find literally thousands of inspirational ideas here. Man (mostly mine) are junk, but you never know where inspiration begins. It only takes a little acorn to grow an oak, but first you need nuts...

One more suggestion. Write what turns you on. Desire should be your muse.
