hello im doing a project for my media arts and technology class. here is part one and two of my main idea.
My idea is related to a project I did for my drawing class. In that project I drew twelve individual drawing/portraitures of vulvas. My theme for it was the idea of variety. I got the idea from watching an episode of Sex and the City in which the character Charlotte (Kirsten Davis) met an artist who specialized in vulva portraits and he proceeded to draw hers. He explained the beauty and uniquity of it.
My sister and mother both told me once that once you see one naked woman you’ve seen them all. In my life I have now officially seen one and that was a 60 year old woman in drawing class. But I disagree with my mom and sister. I can see that all bodies are different. Sure they come with the same basic template, but they are all so unique.
Age, experience, habits, children, society and genetics all play a part in how we look or appear. My project (optimally) would feature 100 vollunteers and two or 3 photos for each as well as a short interview with simple and short answers. Questions would basically be: how old, is she married, does she have kids. The 3 photos (optimally) would feature 3 shots. 1 shot would be a full body shot from the front. 2nd shot would be a back shot of full nude. 3rd shot would be a portrait of her vulva.
Itd be an investigation in diversity in women between 20 and 40 years old. Itd show the variety, and uniqueness of the female body and form.
The problem comes from the acquisition of volunteers and the time in which I have to do this.
Ultimately if it were really successful I might would put together some kind of book and get it published.
part 2
theres a lot of people out there who take that part for granted. you know
the friends with benefits types, the guys out looking for "scores". and just
non-virgins in particular who get into routine and take sex for granted. a
friend of mine a while back slept with this guy and later found a list of
all the girls he'd been with on his computer, he was keeping score basicly.
very lame.
also theres a part in a movie i saw and this guy was comparing the vagina
with an anus and when confronted he said "whats the difference?" in a matter
of fact way.
so in a move to kind of try to dispell the idea of it being just a hole to
stick stuff in. outside of porn and medical text books there are some
artists who have also done projects like this through other medias. and if i
can get people to slow down more and appreciate these uniquities and
differences in the common part...maybe i can get a sense of interest or
fascination. theres a woman named betty dodson ive told you of her before i
think, go look at her website. she has done alot of "genital portraits"
displaying variety and such in the same part.
main idea being: to challenge the idea of offence and comfort as well as notions concerning the vulva. Hopefully by the time the video is over people might think differently, or the females might even give themselves more attention. maybe also to de-pornify the image of the vulva, as well as make it something to look at in thier partners. Overall to improve the image of the vulva and to challenge preconceptions.
so basically, all i wanna ask of the women here, is for a photo of your vulva, your opinion on it, your first name, Proffession, and Location (just country would be fine). and your permission to use them alongside the photo.
my project at the moment is smaller in scale, its a video project.
the foto needs to be clear really and close up so details show up and are crisp and sharp. so the more proffesional looking the better
what i will do is show the image of your vulva and have text pop up with your comment and then your cred- name, proffession, location
thank you, i have until wednesday night, thursday its due. so the sooner the better. and thank you
