If you read the rules I believe they say something about new work.

LITEROTICA MONTHLY CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

1. All stories submitted must be the original work of the person submitting them, and the author must have the legal right to submit the story to Literotica. By submitting the story to the site and/or contest, you are simply granting us the non-exclusive right to publish the story on Literotica. You retain all copyrights to your work. Only stories which meet all existing Literotica criteria are eligible for the contest.

2. Every story in every category accepted for publication on Literotica during the month will be eligible for that month’s contest. Stories submitted during the month will not be eligible for any further month’s contest. (i.e. A story submitted on April 14th will be eligible to win the April contest, but will not be eligible for the May contest.)

I'm assuming this means that once a story has been submitted and posted, it becomes eligible for the monthly award, and this effectively makes it ineligible for any other award.

If you are still confused, I suggest you pm Laurel and ask her for a ruling.

yes, but...

this story has not been submitted in any monthly contest...the 'nude day'contest was, according to rules i read, is a 'special' contest not a monthly contest...

i have written to literotica and await their reply.

thank you for your help.

ANY story submitted and posted on Lit as a matter of course automatically becomes elligible for the monthly contests. It's all about votes.

Another thought... or two....

The people that accused you of plagarism read the story previously and simply did not know that you were the original author.

OR

(the more likely one) Authors take a dim view of someone taking a story that they have previously published on the site and resubmitting simply for a contest. That right there is enough to upset many authors who put time and effort into writing something NEW for each contest.

While figuratively you may not have broken the contest rules.... you however did break an author rule.

Since the accusations were for plagiarism, not cheating, I would assume the former more likely than the latter. People read the story and recognized it as one they had read before so assumed it was stolen.

ETA: Did you change the name of the story when you submitted it? If not, how did you get the same story approved twice?

ETA AGAIN: Never mind. I see, you renamed it when you submitted it for the contest. That isn't eligible, as I understand contest rules.

BTW, sympathy to you, sweetie. :rose: You didn't think you were doing anything wrong, and it's kind of a gray are anyway. Lit's various "rules" are often like fuzzy statutes where the law is determined mostly by caselaw instead of the actual statutebooks. Except, there's no good way to look up the cases!

I experienced a lot of angst over the voting and scores of my stories at first. After a few times I know better, but like Charlie Brown invited to kick that football still can find myself flat on my back. But mostly I'm a lot mellower after a few turns around the block.

Welcome to AH and the wonderful world of posting stories on lit. On balance I've found it a very rewarding experience. :rose:

so how do i take the submission down?

geez heaven forbid i break ANY rule, particularly an 'author rule'. i have enough writing to never need to cheat and i thought i read the contest rules carefully enough. it is a bit 'gray' and i'm a relative newbie.

my apologies.

i changed the title because those times i submitted work that had been rejected, then revised the submission page wont let you reubmit under the same title...i have many rejected submissions as i made many early mistakes...like submitting a novella a chapter at a time. i resubmitted it with a new title, combining the first ten chapters but meanwhile all ten originally rejected chapters are littering up my subnissions page.

oh the woes of a rank 'newbie'...

ouch!

i think i need to toughen up my skin...this one hurt...

unbelievable, repeat posting of a ripp off!

What a great tale. Let's see, it's like the 4 millionth hot tub tale. Do you expect to write more? Or will you simply submit this one again with a different title? This is the identical story which was submitted in May, and worse, I don't think there is / was an original sentence in it.
Mister, I hate literary thieves

guess what? i confess i only have read very few other authors here, read not one single hot tub OR bj story, so how could i possibly be stealing???

:(

If you ever want to submit a revised version of an already submitted story, these are the instructions from the FAQs -

Simply submit the new version as you submitted the old one, only adding the word "EDITED" to the title (ex. "My Sexy Firefighter Ch. 03 - EDITED") so that we know to replace the old text with the new text. We will then replace the original text with the new text. Your story will retain its previous voting score and views.

Hope that helps for the future! :)

They most likely don't realise that it was you who originally submitted it. I wouldn't worry too much about it, or any of the mistakes you've made, dear. Shit happens and life is what happens while you're making plans. :D

I order to remove a story...well, I'm not possitive, but I think you need to resub it the same way you would an edit of a story you've already got up but insteay of making the title "My Story - Edit" (without the quotes) make it :My Story - Remove", or something like that. I think you can find the exact procedure in the submission guidelines FAQs. If I'm wrong about the proceedure I'm sure someone who knows exactly how will come along and correct me...PMSL

If you're really feeling that bad about the error you could leave a PC on your contest story and explain that you didn't realize because the rules are, as has been pointed out, rather grey.

Good luck with everthing and welcome to the AH, bunting. :D

While not plagiarism, a story is only "original work" one time, thus this story should not qualify for the special contest.

I don't know if it will qualify or not, but I feel for you... :( You can't plagiarize yourself... and if you were unaware of the rules (which seem unclear and grey to me, too) and hadn't written much erotica before, how could you know?

There's nothing wrong with a hottub BJ story... someone saying they'd "read it a million times"... well... there are lots of swimming at night sex or eighteen year old college girl and professor stories too... and so? Every author is different and has at least a slightly different perspective on the scene, whatever it is...

sorry your first foray into contests has been so difficult (already)... hang in there... :rose:

thanks everyone!

..for you suggestions and support. i removed the submission this morning and will resubmit another one if i have time. my novella has just been accepted, the first ten chapters...i have some twenty five more...

so another question...when i add the remaining chapters to the novella, how do i do it...by using the same title, and add...'revise' to the new submission?

thanks again,

BG

thanks again

You can submit by chapters, just use the same title, but note that the first submission is Ch. 01-10, and the second submission is Ch. 11-25.

Hopefully, I understood your question.
thanks again helpful people...i omitted chapter four in my first novel submission....arggghhh when will i get these right? i even had a friend proof read it for me, i guess not well enough.

thanks again all of you!!

hugs,

BG
