I've been trying to get this story approved for nearly a month now and I'm growing less flexible with what I'm willing to change.

My story is about a guy who meets a sixteen year old girl and their relationship evolves through to her eighteenth birthday, at which point they, well, you know, fuck. Nothing happens between them while she is underage, but I'm hoping that there is a way I can reword something or leave out a minute detail, because I am pretty decided on the story. It's been suggested to have the girl look and act young, but her youth is incidental; the whole idea behind the story is that there is a reason they can't have sex, one that I haven't seen on this site before, and I'm really happy with how it came out. Obviously though, its five pages are worth jack shit if I can't get it approved.

Though it does involve a minor, I feel there's nothing indecent about the story. Noone is being taken advantage of or used; it's just a first time story which apparently is more risque than I had previously thought. Anyway if an editor can help me I'd be very very appreciative. Zanks. Muah, and stuff.

For the purposes of this site, no one under the age of 18 can have any sexual experiences whatsoever. Period.

Just the rules, dude, and if you'd like to see this site continue to exist, I would suggest you live within them, instead of trying to get around them.

There are two ways for it to see the light of day:
1. You remove any suggestion of an under-18 character and resubmit here.
2. You submit the story somewhere else where they don't have rules about underage characters.

Free suggestion:

I'll show you a way to turn your problem into something more compelling. Write your story in the future, when the religious purists have made the minimum age 20. Then they can meet when she's 18, and you have your built-in conflict/tension without stepping on Lit's toes, or our current puritanical system. There are all kinds of explanations for this (increased sheltering, knee-jerk reaction to how "hedonistic" we had become in the past, etc), or you can make it a fantasy world in some other time or place.

But, it is indeed fantasy to involve a 16yr old in a sexually tense situation and expect Lit to think that is okay. Anne Rampling (Rice) did it in print, but I bet she'd still have been turned down on Lit.

So would Shakespeare and Nabokov (Juliet and Lolita were underage) as would every accurate history of the royal families of the middle ages, and any accurate story about schoolroom pregnancies.

The point made here almost every week is that Lit own the board so they make the rules. Legality has nothing to do with it. The rules of other boards have nothing to do with it. The rules of other paper publishers have nothing to do with it. Morality has nothing to do with it. Your wishes as an author have nothing to do with it. Your wishes as a reader have nothing to do with it.

I've posted the original story elsewhere, so now I'm not so bothered by the idea of changing an aspect of the plot. Maybe I'll post a link to it as well. Anyway thanks again.
