1.)Over at NPR it looks like one person pulling the load. You think you could coax some of these idlers to take a whack?
2.) Whatever happened to the "E" list that once was here?
which begat
3.) How would I search out the "E''s if I wanted to?
4.) What is a "W"?

We would surely welcome others to recommend new poetry - and have suggested as much on a fairly regular basis. ANYONE who wishes to share their recommendations is a member worth their salt.

the sad fact is that people tend to find time-constraints prevent them from being able to commit to any kind of sustained commentary, and many don't even find time to visit that side of the site as their time is consumed either here on the forums or reading/perusing other aspects of the site.

some of us did go in for a regular and in-depth review, but personal circumstances would often get in the way and then there were those who offered suggestions only to receive less than complementary remarks for their efforts, which put them off further contributions.

vrosej, a personal thankyou for taking up the slack over in NPR at the moment. :rose:

as a relatively new mod here, i have no idea about your lists. hopefully one of the other mods, current or ex, will be able to shed light on this request

You may have noticed I am not a mod these days (and happier for it). I don't know what happened to the E list or how to search them, but a "W" stands for "Winner," meaning you won one of the contests here. For poetry that means the annual awards, but there are monthly and other contests for story writers, too.

Unmoddingly yours,
A.

I think you can search for stories/poems with E's and/or W's in the general story search function on the index page. I'll go make sure...

Yeah, just click one of the boxes for Editor's Choice on advanced search page for poetry

http://search.literotica.com/search.php?type=poem

You can also order them by date, I believe.

Regarding poetry reviews: most of the poets over at New Poetry Page try too hard to sound like poets. Trying hard is good. Bob Dylan tried real hard in most of his songs and you can tell he's trying to sound like a poet from the 13th Century; he's got structure, original wordplay. Most of the poets at New Poetry Page write poems as if Annabelle Lee is radical free verse. That's just what I got from reading the last few days submissions. I haven't read submissions in a couple months. I'm prissy and picky as a reader/reviewer.

i must go take a look soon. seems like most times i do, though, it's just a jumble of worn-out pornish splat, though if one digs enough the gems come to the light i suppose...

...worn-out pornish splat
God, I love you
in a long distance platonic sort of way

Thank you all muchly

Rybka when he did NPR would do a spinner, where he would highlight an "oldie", I might give it a whirl with the "E"s. So next time I splash into the septic tank. (Really. I saw a really wonderful passage by VRose and an interesting poem by greenmountain guy, and little else) I'll go find an "E" also. I'll start at the Z titles (mine are clustered at the front) just so I don't get that old "you're an arrogant egotistical bastard" routine, which is only half right.

i look forward to reading the results of your splashing about. :)

so... only a half-bastard?

I may well be wrong but I always suspected the E rating was just Eve's faves. Seems to make more sense, too, since she hasn't been around much lately. Otherwise, what Chip said and Hey Ange! :cattail:

I found during my tenure sifting through the new poems that the splat was the majority and I found myself honing in on familiar names that promised something really good and so I probably missed some gems. It's a great pity because nothing pleases me more in here to find new poetic talent but a girl can only take so much splatting.......

PS The "E" is for a poem the editor(s) deem excellent. It's common knowledge how I feel about that. :)

Some disagreement - even on my part. But all were better than average. And they are not my choices. Interact was not my choices either, I agreed with them. Rybka and Senna Jawa would have been fun. I may have asked SJ, I don't remember for sure - I think I scare him.

One (of many) of the reasons I quit doing Interact, was people were taking hits on their scores. jd4george mentioned it, a few others. That was when the top list started going to hell.

I got pissed at Ryb one time, when I got a E for anti-gaki and an email saying I was mentioned in New Poems, so I look, his comment: Well some people seem to like it. OK, if you don't, and you don't have anything to say about it, don't mention it.

He sent me an email, telling me how much flak he was getting from people when he didn't mention theirs, now I begin to wonder, eh?

I always thought he just didn't like my stuff, but he was leaving comments under his alt. on the things he did like.

My biggest regret, was Ryb and I couldn't have been friends. Too blunt, too opinionated, him and I.

Hey yourself, girlie.

None of the moderators ever had anything to do with who received an E. It was either Laurel or someone she designated who selected them. Killer Muffin might know.

I'm beginning to agree

DO I have to be nice???? I don't want to pull that O'ReillyLebroz "You Decide" crap. There has to be different editors that are making these choices. It doesn't appear consistent.

Rybka's I thought was wonderful, ( I gave a reason) mine, well at least different.
Even accounting for differences in taste, some make cardinal errors that as yet I can't see a justification for.

Well as rybka always said
Pax

And I sometimes replied
Pox

'nother question: What happened to the old Bulby things?
'nother question: What happened to weekly Post a poem, that was up at the top? I had one up, I think I'd like it back "Under the Black Flag" retitled "Polemic",
I think most of it was written in Common Metre. Well Common enough.

Some of this may precede you, chipbuddy? I can't find anything in the old threads that give me any indication as to the why or where.

all of it precedes me, twelveo - only been doing this modding thing a few months but don't recall seeing them there as a usual member either, and that's been a year and a half. maybe Pandora or Ange or Lauren know.
