The problem with the search is a strange one. Because we have so many posts, rebuilding the search index takes more than 24 hours. Usually this is no big deal, but with the current high loads on the database, we can't get it to rebuild without starting the database server on fire. It's part of the same problem that's causing slowness during peak usage on the forums.

We have someone auditing the applications, hardware, software, etc., and they've already made some initial suggestions which we're in the process of implementing. Once we get the database server out of its funk, we will be able to rebuild the search index and everything will be hunky-dory again. It could happen any day now, and we're working on it during every spare moment.

In the meantime, I suggest you use the manual search option, also known as Ask Weird Harold.
