Very well done, highly imaginative film. I give it four stars, mostly because this film could easily have been so fucked up if the wrong people had got a hold of it, and for showing the new Star Wars trailer beforehand.

I just wish Richard Harris had more screentime. How is he to gloriously over-act if he isn't on screen more often? (Anyone see "Camelot"? I think half the reason the scenery looks so bad is because Harris had chewed it all to bits.)

Anyway, a very good film, not just for kids...

If Dixon Carter Lee Gave It Four Stars!

Then This Jazzy Girl Better Go On Out To The Theater:D

Starfisssssh!

Me Too!

I went to see it Thursday night. I had very few complaints about the movie... my only real one, The actor who played "Harry" may have been a little too, laid back.

Great visuals, all through, very imaginative. The movie also stayed very close to the book... I give it two thumbs up

Finally I am going this afternoon.

From the descriptions given to me by Nasty it has to be a good movie.

DCL.........

I heard a rumour that Spielberg (sp) was going to direct the film but turned it down when it became clear that J.K.Rowling wouldn't let him have a free hand to change the story as HE saw fit.

By all accounts he wanted to change Harry into an American boy and have the whole story set in the USA, by all accounts Rowling told him "NO WAY" and he got really pissy because he's just not used to people saying "NO" to him anymore.

Did you hear anything about this ?

I don't know if that is true or not. But if it is, I say good for her! Looks like she made the correct decision. Anyway, how could you explain major plot changes to the target audience- CHILDREN?? I think it needed to stay as close to the story in the book as possible for kids to really like it.

I haven't seen it yet, but I am really looking forward to taking my nieces to see it. Probably won't get there for another week. Too much on my plate for this weekend.

I saw it yesterday

I Loved It!

Very magical movie.. (pun not intended). Brought back memories of when I was a kid and I *wished so hard* I could fly..

I took 4 little kids with me, my 2 loved it.. the other one wanted to see Monsters Inc. instead.. and the 5 year old slept on my lap thru the WHOLE 2.5 hour movie.

Funny thing is, there were hardly any kids in the theatre and the movie was sold out!

I'm going back, this time w/o kids ;)

I have to admit that this is one of the few thing's about Hollywood that really put's a bee in my bonnet, they have a nasty habit of messing with thing's that don't need to be messed with.

The most glaring case of what I'm talking about is the live action version of 101 Dalmations where they changed British badgers for American racoons(sp) because they thought Americans wouldn't understand what a badger was.

The fact that racoons don't exist in the UK meant nothing to Hollywood, I also suspect that they were grossly under estimating the US public's abillity to make the mental note that a badger is much the same as a racoon, if I were a US film goer I'd be rather insulted by that.

i have'nt seen it yet i tried to today i dragged my poor 6 yr old nephew all over the west end of london for 2 hrs and got told sorry todays screenings are sold out bastards my little nephew was heartbroken i hate seeing him upset.

Saw it yesterday and really liked it.... but the ultimate test was the kids - they loved it... and, according to them, pretty true to the book. They were thrilled!

Outsider -- I heard something about the Speilberg thing, but I don't htink it went down all that dramatically. Lots of people have said no to Spielberg. Projects go from hand to hand all the time.

What's nice is the the author maintained amazing creative control over the project. Her choice. She felt she owed it to the kids.

For those interested in background on Harry Potter, there will be a repeat of MSNBC's Headliners and Legends episode on Harry Potter tonight at 7PM (check your local listings)

It does mention that Speilberg and J.K.Rowlings had a difference of opinion on who would have the final say on the movie. I don't think it was terrible acrrimonious, but negotiations did break down over changing the setting to america and other changes he wanted to make.

yaay

I loved it too.

My fave bits were the sorting hat bits and of course the Quidditch match :)

I just saw it and it was great!

My favorite parts were the troll and the book that screamed.

I saw it!

I took my nieces today to see Harry Potter and I was surprised how empty the theatre was. Yes, it was a matinee, but it was only 20% full. We got great seats walking in at the last minute for an earlier showing. I was getting us there 45 minutes ahead of time for the one we intended to see, thinking there would still be a huge line!

I really liked the movie. It does stay very close to the book storyline. The one thing the book does that the movie can't is tell you what Harry is thinking about his life and what is going on. It makes him more "human" in the book when you know he's never received a birthday or Christmas present before, for example.

Excellent casting, too. All the characters fit their images from the book very well.

If you haven't seen it yet, it is worth the trip to see it in the theatre before it gets to video.

Ok saw it today and liked it a lot, also saw the add for the next stars wars movie and the lord of the rings and both looked great.

I guess I'll be the different one. We saw the movie, and I thought it was ok. Guess I'm getting too old, but I just couldn't get into it. I haven't been impressed with many of the movies we have seen lately. I do want to see " Lord of the Rings" though, I think that one will be good. Maybe.

I saw it with my son on Friday .... he is only 4 so I liked it more than he did although he did like Fluffy. His only complaint was that it was too loud.

I saw a special a few weeks ago regarding who was chosen to do the movie and Spielburg did want to do it. There were three men in competition for the honor. J. K. Rowling was adamant that the person who do the movie stick absolutely to the book. The man who ended up receiving the honors (I can't remember his name for the life of me) had his daughter look at the dailies to see what was not correct.
