Leave there puters on all the time?............................................Only shut down to reboot?

I do...it goes on sleep mode after 2 hrs of non use, but its still on.

I keep my computer on all the time. Everyone says that is bad but my last comp i had on 24 hours a day for 3 years and nothing happened.... then i realised i should upgrad from a P 200 to a P3 850 and i havne't shut this on off in a year.

I did before I went to a cable modem. Now I shut it off when I'm done.

puter geeks that I have talked to say its better to leave on all the time. They say its better for the puter than turning it off and on a hundred times a day...maybe that was just for me who spends 16 hours a day on the damn thing! :D

estevie if you don't have a good enough fan and if it does not go into standby mode like me, my comp is constantly uploading and d/loading so stays at full power all day. It can over heat... there is the bad side.

Fly, i just use my computer for home/personal use...so,yea, if it doesn't go into a sleep or standby mode, it probably would be best to turn it off. Now, I do turn mine off if I'm not going to be around...like going out of town or something, but for the most part it is on all the time.

turn off computer?

only during a thunder storm or freezing rain. when we are not using it the internet lock on Zone alarm is on. we do reboot at least once a day or when we have run a lot of programs 98se works better that way.

I turn it on just before I turn on the coffee maker in the morning and turn it off just before I turn off the last light at night.

I do reboot as needed.

Mine is on and off all day long...the poor thing is booted up so often :) LoL We turn it off anytime we leave the house...wouldn't have to do this if an ex friend wasn't trying to hack us all the time...before I would leave it on all day and just turn it off at night when I went to bed...which I'm gonna do now :) night :)

My little laptop (wink wink nudge nudge) used to be left on all the time. My computer nerd brother in law said that it's the cooling down and heating up of the 'puter that is bad for it. But it's a little too noisy for my liking really, so off it goes!

When the comp clock gets 45 minutes off the actual time, I reboot. Unless there is a lightning storm, or a chance that I will be away from it for more than 48 hours, I shut it down.

Puter? I don't play golf.:p Seriously, unless I go on vacation, or leave the apartment for more than 24 hrs., I shut it off. That, or a storm.

I meant on, that I leave it on. You all know that. I shouldn't even post this. Ah, hell...

OMG!!!!!! They have an off switch?....I leave mine on, like a light bulb, if you never turn it off it lasts much longer. The heating up and cooling off wears on electronics too, they all work best if kept at a constant temperature.

:D

Yea........I leave the two desktops on and was wondering what other do.................Thanks guys and girls...............:)

Hey, anyone one know why my 'puter constantly loses time. I always have to adjust it by 20 minutes. It's getting to be really annoying. AND I'm late all the time!:(

I'm not sure if this is the reason but it may be

My comp was loosing time once and i had to replace the something battery, (well i didn't someone else replaced it for me) but he said it looks like a watch battery and it's on the motherboard.

hmmmmmmmm

TY mr fly ......

damn batteries ....... seems like I'm always replacing batteries ....... ;)

Did you forget to wind it back up? I hated those stupid watches, I was always forgetting to wind it and kept getting grounded for being late.

The battery you're addressing is the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) keep-alive battery. It provides the power to retain your system BIOS setup information stored in CMOS memory when the system is shut down.

This battery also powers the clock chip when the computer is off. If it's low, it will still maintain the CMOS but will not operate the clock chip, thus the system date and time will not update when the system is off.

Some (many?) systems provide a charge path for this battery when the system is on and the battery is only used when system power is off.

LDF's problem sounds like the system clock updates are not occurring when the sysem is running. If I can come up with a plausible reason for that, I'll post it later.
