My hubby somehow has managed to download a program called 'Hot Dialer'....an internet porn dialler....which I might add cost us $88 for 16 minutes!!!
But thats another story....(he's a dead man!)

The thing I am most concerned with right now is that I have this program that I just cannot get rid of...doing the normal 'add/remove programs doesn't work because its not listed, but its listed on my start menu as a program and is also in program files.

Can anyone help me get rid of this damn thing before my kids accidently click on it please.....there's no chance of hubby doing it again - he's banned from the computer.....and all of lifes other little pleasures.....:D

Delete it, then find the little effing program which will be hidden within your downloading area, delete THAT, then double check to make sure you got all the copies the little effing thing makes of itself.

Basically, it's a virus, but you CAN beat it.....just delete EVERY one of them, and it won't come back.

Hope it helps!

delete the program files from your computer then download somthing like redg clean to get all the last bits from your regestry

then intall somthing like norton and enable the auto install tab it askes you to conferm the install first

Oh he'll pay alright! At the moment he's too scared to even look in my direction.....I reckon I'll let him some slack in a bout a week ;)

Nathon, where's my downloading area? I've searched everywhere and the damn program doesn't seem to be listed anywhere......well it is but from what I can see it seems to have so many files all in different area's of the computer and with different names! I can't find a delete file........nor is it listed under the control panel add/remove programs.

They are good I tell ya!:(

If you have windows, go to search or find in your start button menu. If this was just done, search for all files created or modified during the period of time it was downloaded to the present.

You may be able to figure out what folder the files were installed in and delete enough of them to disable the program.

Additionally, you should copy any file you delete to a floppy disk in case you delete something that screws your computer up.

Another way to go about it is to see where the shortcut leads. If you right click on the icon and hit properties, it will tell you the program that is running the show.

Good luck.

PM me if I can help.

*chuckles* They ARE faily good.......

Forgot, there's two different kinds of these bastards......

You got the second kind.......STD-type (Don't have to actually touch it, that is, download it, and they're REALLY hard to get rid of.) Maiden hunter gave good advice....if you can afford it...otherwise, highlight the file, then hold down Shift, hit delete. Should ask if you want to, hit yes.

THEN....Start, Settings, taskbar and program menu. Click on Advanced, and then shift delete all the little icons it sticks in your start-up menu.

And, tell him that if he EVER needs porn that badly again.......He can PM me, I'll bloody well send a CD or something. Don't TOUCH those damn things!

Lol, bastards is a nice way to describe them.....

Ok I've done as you said and it all appears to be sitting in my recycle bin - which I'll empty in a minute. Now how do I get rid of the remaining folders - that are empty? Should they have disapeared when I deleted the files within?

Oh yeah, we had a slight 'discussion' on the paid porn thing (when I recieved the phone bill will all of the 'extra' charges)....I believe my suggestion at the time was that a hooker would have been cheaper! (He may be requiring the services of one shortly...):D

Thank you so much for all of your patience and help!

Most of those "Auto-dialers" operate in the background. Get zonealarm http://www.zonealarm.com

get the free version, what that will do is show you all the programs that want to access the internet. when the auto-dialer pops-up deny it access. it will (sometimes) show you the command name that is trying to dial out (something.exe) delete it from the directory.

BTW, not all auto-dialers are voluntarily installed, some hide in programs that people download and when the program gets installed the auto-dialer gets installed with it.

The best way to remove it.. is to find it's registry key.

go to Start

run

type in

regedit.exe

I'll see if I can find out what the registry line is for it.

I went to a porn site one time that downloaded on of those damn dialers. I started to delete all that shit and than said "Fuck it." and clicked on my Go Back icon and got rid of it.

I'm telling ya it's worth every penny.

But if you dont know what you are doing there, you can fuck up the computer.

So be careful.
