Hailey Bloomburg was moving away. In the past few months, she'd graduated high school, got accepted to the same college as her brother, and had gotten enough scholarship money that she could live off campus. Her parents didn't want her to move across the Atlantic Ocean from their upstate suburban Connecticut home to an English university outside of London. She was their baby, but Hailey was determined to become an independent young woman. She was fortunate enough to be going to the same university as her brother. She knew Daniel lived in a house close to campus with two other guys. There was still a room open in the house, so Hailey reassured them of her security by getting Dan to allow her to live in the spare room. She'd have her own room and own bathroom, so her mom and dad was satisfied.
Hailey was a very athletic girl. She'd been playing soccer since she could walk. It was something that Dan had taught her to do, so she thanked him for her soccer scholarship that covered her tuition. She loved soccer. It was a great feeling to be able to feel light on her feet as she ran up and down the field. She was a center midfielder. She was good with a ball, and her skills had been seen by scouts from all over the country, but she wanted to go to school where her big brother went. So her mom took footage of her at games and practice and they sent it into the English university. Next thing she knew, Hailey was signing the papers with the coach of the team.
She had many other talents. At 5' 11", she was tall and lanky. A lot of her friends called her a human toothpick. Being her height, she went out for the basketball team at her high school. She was okay at her potion, point shooter, but she didn't like dribbling a ball with her hands, she liked dribbling a ball with her feet. However her insane love for soccer, she also played tennis, softball, and she'd been dancing since she was ten. It was the least to say that she was great on her feet.
When she danced, it was her relaxation from all the stress with school and soccer and boys. Boys seemed to think that she was just a piece of meat, and not something to cherish. Hailey never seemed to be that interested in guys who wanted to treat her like that. There had been one guy. He was in her dance class. Jesse. He'd gone to a rival school and their attraction had been all a secret. He was nice and he treated her right. Their nightly dance togethers ended up with both of them naked on the dance floor with their hands all over each other. Hailey wouldn't give it up to him though. That wasn't a problem for Jesse, but the fact that he was going to UCLA and she was going to London Metropolitan University. They'd be on opposite sides of the world. Hailey decided to cut it off at the beginning of the summer. It was for the best.
Dan was already in England. He had only left for a month to come back to the states to help Hailey figure out everything she had to do. He was supposed to be the one picking her up for the airport in London. Her mother had all of her boxes with her personals sent to the address Daniel had given them. Daniel had called the day before Hailey boarded the plain to tell her that all of her stuff had gotten there and it was in her room. He didn't touch any of her stuff, just put the boxes in her new room. He'd see her when she'd get off the plane. She'd only be bringing two bags of her stuff that she needed.
Hailey hugged her mom. Her mom and dad were crying. Her mom was crying more than her dad. "Mom," she said, "It'll be okay." She had her duffel bag on her shoulder. The dinging to her flight was going off. It was time with her to go. She hadn't shed a tear until that she heard that ding. "I love you guys!" She pulled out of her mom's embrace, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek and giving her dad one as well. She waved to them as she walked through the terminal. Putting her duffel bag in the overhead, she sat down next to an old woman.
She looked at the woman and preyed she never lost her sense of fashion when she got to be this woman's age. The women had her hair short and she wore a suit with shoulder pads in an awful ugly pale green color made out of some itchy fabric. Hailey's sense of fashion was always impeccable. She had a tomboy style that played well with her looks. She had long auburn hair that went down her mid back. It was wavy and silky, and Hailey could never think of cutting it. However, since she started growing older, her tomboy style started to girly up. She started wearing make up, and her vow to not wearing skirts or dresses ceased to exist.
Her look ranged from a punky style of skinny jeans, converses, plaid button up tops or band t-shirts. She liked to wear the straight brimmed hat that Daniel had gotten her for her birthday last year. It was a simple hat with a spray brush graffiti design. Her whole style was kind of punky, whether she dressed tomboyish or girly. She wanted to make an impression on her brother's and her's new roommates when she got there. She decided to wear a tutu black dress with purple tool under it. She decided to wear her high top laced converses with the dress. She felt perfect in it. She was ready for her new life.
Hailey fell asleep on the plane ride over. She had put her iPod on and fell asleep to Rage Against the Machine. After getting nudged by a flight attendant, Hailey put on her belt. Sitting up in her seat the old woman started talking to her. Hailey just turned up her music and drowned her out as they landed at London Heathrow Airport. She was starting to get butterflies. She couldn't wait to see Dan. He had been her best friend growing up. When he moved to London to go to college two years ago, she felt lost without him. Stepping out off the plane and into the terminal, she saw him standing there looking for her. She didn't know if he saw her yet.
(I promise my posts won't be this long all the time)
