Origin of Mutation

Many thousands of years ago, the Mediterranean Region of Earth was hit with a massive meteor shower. Within the fragments of space rock were bright blue crystals, which gave of a sort of mist immediately following the shower. Those exposed to the mists began to develop superhuman abilities, attaining a higher state of being. They gathered the remnants of the meteor fragments, which had stopped producing the mist, and took them to a secluded island for study, an island that would eventually become known as Atlantis.

After realizing that extreme heat caused the crystals to emanate the mist, they granted powers to others they deemed worthy, and became gods to the rest of humanity. Their intellects grew immense, and they created a vast array of ancient technologies. Atlantis became the greatest city in the world, and was the capitol of their new kingdom.

Eventually, the so-called gods began to wage war on each other, the battles from which were the basis of many legends to come. One such god came forth, and discovered a method to rob other gods of their powers. He soon became the mightiest of the gods, and taking the name Ragnarok, set forth to conquer the world. The Atlanteans fought against him, whereas the Olympians (gods that had left Atlantis) joined him after he destroyed their king, Zeus.

In the end, Ragnarok and the Olympians were defeated, turned to stone. The Atlanteans decided their war had caused far too much destruction to the mortals, and vowed to stay out of their affairs. They opened a doorway to another dimension, one without human life. Renaming it Asgard, the Atlanteans relocated there with the crystals and the living statues of their enemies, sinking Atlantis to the bottom of the sea before departing to prevent the mortals from using its secrets. Over the generations to come, the Atlanteans came to call themselves Asgardians, ruling from their capitol city in their new world, Valhalla.

However, unbeknownst to them at the time, Merlin, an Atlantean thought to be dead, had secretly removed some of the crystals from the labs on Atlantis beforehand. Creating several small amulets, he gathered a group of followers and together they discovered various magical arts, some light and some dark. Eventually a dark wizard was contacted by a group of Asgardians that had been banished to an underground prison, and a connection was made. Twisted by their own dark magic, they became demons, and returned to the Earth through this connection to wreak havoc. Thus started the never-ending cycle of trying to send all the demons back to Hel, the underground prison on Asgard.

A variety of other demonic entities came into existence during this time, include vampires, werewolves, warlocks, etc. Merlin had gained immortality, and grew distraught watching what his wayward follower had caused. Finally, he assembled the Watchers’ Council, and they began monitoring the supernatural world in secret, doing their best to clean up messes and keep the mortal world oblivious. He tried to recollect all the amulets, but several of them always seemed to slip from his grasp…

Eventually, the number of magical beings diminished, and another group of superhumans came into existence from their descendants– mutants. They kept their powers secret, and passed on these secrets from generation to generation. As the world reached the modern era, both mutants and magi maintained their secrets.

Current State of Affairs

In the late 1960s during the Vietnam War, the US Government discovered the existence of mutants and magi after some of them joined the Communists. Getting their hands on one of the amulets, the government created a secret military base on an island in the Caribbean, where they began using the amulet to experiment with genetic engineering. The material of the crystal was dubbed Terrigen, and the base’s operations became the Terrigenesis Project. The island itself became known as Baxter Island. The Superhuman Hazard Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) was assembled to watch over the project, while also keeping tabs on the mutants and magi of the world. The directors of S.H.I.E.L.D. were contacted secretly by Merlin and the Watchers, and informed of their extensive history.

In the years that followed, S.H.I.E.L.D. made many enemies, including the terrorist known as Magneto. More recently, in 2010, General Nick Fury was appointed the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and was shocked to discover that the scientists at Baxter Island had been experimenting on mutants and magi for years. One record showed a man being bonded with adamantium.

Disgusted by this, Fury set out to put a stop to it. However, only a few months into his tenure, in early summer, Magneto and his followers attacked Baxter Island, the power-hungry terrorist even going as far as to rip out a passing plane from the sky and crash it into the base. The resulting explosion caused a massive outpouring of mist from the Terrigen, sending a wave of bright blue fog out over the land and surrounding waters, also enveloping a nearby island called Rorosto, which happened to be full of tourists, as it was a huge resort city.

At first, the patrons of Rorosto felt no difference, and went about their lives. However, over the weeks to come, it became obvious something was very different… They were now mutants themselves, changed by the blue fog. They were gradually developing super powers, and a new wave of superheroes and supervillains swept the world.

Thus brings us to the start of the game, September 2010. It has been three months since the Mutant Syndrome Outbreak, as the media calls it. In the aftermath of Magneto’s attack, S.H.I.E.L.D. tries desperately to clean up the mess, rebuild Baxter Island, and keep track of all the new mutants. The secret is out, the veil lifted, the mirage shattered by the media. Mutants are common knowledge now, but greatly feared by most. The world is in a state of unrest, and with the arrival of new mutants, the older ones are also revealing their powers to the world.

Characters can be new mutants, old mutants, magi (wizards, witches, sorcerers, etc.), or other supernatural creatures (vampires, werewolves, demons, etc.). They can be people who have nothing to do with the two islands, they can be employees of Baxter Island and S.H.I.E.L.D., part of the villains that attacked it, patrons of Rorosto, or whatever else you think will work. I’m open to suggestions. Each character bio should include a description of how they got their powers and their lives leading up to September 2010. The common event that brings them all together is a mass scale attack on New York City. Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, Iron Monger, Red Ghost, and Scorpion lead a slew of other mutants and magi against the heroes of New York. People from surrounding areas come to assist, and an all out super-powered war breaks out in the streets.

The heroes that come to fight the evil forces will join together to become the Avengers, watching over New York from Stark Tower. This game will be GMed by myself and NiteCrowe, and we will each play several main characters and a few NPCs.

http://greenelantern.deviantart.com/art/Ultimate-Spiderman-pinup-color-63932289
Real Name: Peter Benjamin Parker
Age: 18
Birthday: March 1st

Abilities:
Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and durability
Accelerated healing factor
Ability to cling to most surfaces
Precognitive spider sense
Genius-Level Intellect

Bio:

After losing his parents to a plane crash when he was a young child, Peter Parker was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May in their Queens, New York home. It became increasingly obvious that he was smarter than average, and by the time he entered high school, he had caught the eyes of several scientists.

From an early age, Peter had befriended Harry Osborn, son of billionaire Norman Osborn. However, as they got older, they grew apart – Peter was more interested in science and technology, whereas Harry was preoccupied with sports and cars. He began to develop a friendship with Eddie Brock in his sophomore year after the two became lab partners in science class, and soon Eddie became Peter’s closest friend, Harry having joined the school basketball team and becoming friends with bully Flash Thompson.

By the end of senior year, Peter and Eddie had earned scholarships to Empire State University, which they chose over MIT and Harvard to be closer to home. Harry and Flash had also been accepted, gaining a full ride on basketball scholarships. After graduation, Peter and Eddie planned to go on vacation to the tropical island resort Rorosta, which had become a recent hot spot.

Using the money they had saved from various after school jobs, Peter and Eddie bought plane tickets and a hotel room for two weeks in Rorosto. Little did they know that this trip would change their lives forever. The first few days went by wonderfully – they even met Tony Stark, son of legendary weapons designer Howard Stark, who was also on vacation. But then, one day when Peter was out for a walk on his own, he tripped and fell into a bush, and felt a sharp pain on his hand. Looking down, he saw that a huge spider had bitten him. He shook it off, and headed back to the hotel.

A little bit later, by the time Peter got back to his room, he started to feel dizzy. Soon he was trembling, sweating, and vomiting into the toilet. Terrified the spider bite was going to kill him, he began panicking. This feeling intensified when he heard a far off explosion and looked out the open bathroom window to see a huge cloud of bright blue fog heading towards the island. It poured over the island, and even through the window into the hotel room.

After the fog rushed his body and filled his lungs, he felt a floating sensation, and then the floor rushed to meet his head and he was out. Upon waking up, he felt a little better, and went outside for some fresh air. The fog was long gone, but apparently everyone had seen it. Everyone felt fine, but Peter knew that fog was not normal – it had somehow made him immune to the spider venom that was killing him.

Shortly after returning home, Peter began to realize he had a lot more energy than normal. He seemed healthier, and even looked better in the mirror. Soon, his eyes began to correct themselves and he no longer needed glasses. It wasn’t long before he developed the enhanced abilities that would mark him as a superhero.

At first, Peter used his new powers to win some money at underground martial arts tournaments. However, when a gang sponsored fighter followed him home one night after being deliberately humiliated by Peter, Uncle Ben ended up dead trying to defend his home. Devastated, Peter swore to avenge his uncle.

His plans were delayed upon realizing that many other people from the island had gained powers. It was all over the news – the Mutant Syndrome Outbreak. Not only that, but apparently other Mutants had existed in secret and were coming out of the closet. With the government trying to keep track of it all, Peter decided to keep his identity secret. He built web shooters and became Spider-Man, web-slinging all over New York, hunting down all the members of the gang that was responsible for his uncle death and making sure they ended up in prison.

After defeating the gang boss, Peter decided he had a higher calling and began fighting crime and rogue mutants. By the end of summer, everyone knew about the amazing Spider-Man, and others began to dress up as well. He managed to keep his dual identity a secret from everyone, moved into an apartment with Eddie in the city, and secured a job at the Daily Bugle as a part-time web developer/general tech support.

With the arrival of September, Peter is officially a college student, and tries his best to juggle friendships, school, work, family, and the pressures of being a superhero. He has no idea the turn of events that lies just around the corner…

Iron Man
Image: http://lancemannion.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/ironman_1.jpg
Real Name: Anthony Edward Stark
Age: 23
Birthday: August 1st

Abilities:
Genius-level intellect
Super strength and flight in suit
Energy repulsors
Missiles
Various add-ons for special enhancements

Bio:

Tony Stark, son of legendary weapons developer Howard Stark, quickly stole the spotlight with his brilliant and unique mind. By the time he hit puberty he was already a top student at MIT, and graduated summa cum laude at only age seventeen. He spent many hours doing additional studying, and worked side-by-side with his father, creating better, smarter weapons, advanced robotics, satellite targeting, and many other technological advances.

While on vacation in Rorosta, Tony met Peter Parker and Eddie Brock, and they formed a strong friendship. Later on, he was just as amazed when the blue fog appeared. In the weeks following the event, he began to realize his mind was working a lot faster – it had become an organic supercomputer, allowing him to access memories as clearly as if they were video files.

He was very happy with his new, even better mind, but it soon led him to discover that his father’s partner, Obadiah Stane, had secretly involved the company in something called the Terrigenesis Project. He did some homework and discovered they were responsible for the Outbreak. Wanting to stop the rogue mutants that his family’s company helped create, Tony built a suit of powered armor that his brain could interface with, and became Iron Man.

Building a secret headquarters underneath Stark Tower, Tony spent many long nights down there, compiling lists of rogue mutants to hunt down. He would go out on patrol nearly every day, and teamed up with Spider-Man and other heroes on occasion. He had no idea he would soon be teaming up with many more.

Reed Richards
Image: http://www.comicbooknews.us/IMGs/marvel/Ultimatum_NoMore_UltimateFFUltimateXMen.jpg
Real Name: Reed Justin Richards
Age: 27
Birthday: January 15th

Abilities:
Genius-level intellect
Super flexible and elastic skin, bones, and organs

Bio:

Orphaned at a young age, Reed Richards became a quiet and reclusive child. He buried himself in his studies, and it became obvious he was abnormally intelligent. By the time he was ten, he was enrolled in a special academy for child geniuses. There he met Victor Von Doom, a fellow genius who became his closest friend. They worked hard together and made it to MIT, where they both earned doctorates in several fields of science.

More recently, Reed and Victor were hired by the US Government and sent to Baxter Island to work on Project Terrigenesis. After Magneto attacked the island and caused the explosion, everything changed. When the smoke cleared, the villains were gone, and a bright blue fog filled the air. They helped the clean up process, and soon the staff of the island began to realize they had become mutants – Reed had become a living rubberman, and Victor gained the ability to absorb electrical energy and use it in various ways.

Reed and Victor, along with many of the island’s staff, joined Team X, which was assembled to scout the area and find out how many people were effected. With the commander of the facility, General Nick Fury, in a coma after the explosion, Colonel William Stryker took command of the island’s operations. It soon became apparent that his methods were cruel and unorthodox, but prevailed nonetheless.

Eventually, Reed refused to work for Stryker any longer, but Victor begged him to reconsider, calling him an idiot for giving up a perfect opportunity for the sake of others. Realizing his friend had grown selfish and power hungry, he turned his back on him and left the island. Several others followed him, and they relocated to New York City. There, Nick Fury appeared, stating that he was no longer in a coma, but had his body replaced with a clone to avoid suspicion. He was secretly spying on Stryker, waiting for him to slip up so he could catch him red handed.

Creating a new group called Avengers, Nick Fury employed Reed and a few others to help in his efforts. When a force of villains attack New York City, many heroes gather together to confront the threat. In the aftermath of the battle, Fury and Reed recruit many of the heroes into the Avengers.

Other Info:

Osborn Industries is a major part of Project Terrigenesis. Also involved is Stark Industries, though this is kept secret from the Stark family by Obadiah Stane. During the explosion, Norman Osborn is one of the few in the lab, and as a result, gets the fog full-blast. A few days later, he goes temporarily insane, turns into a huge green goblin-like creature, and goes on a rampage.

After powering down, Osborn gradually learns how to control his transformations, and along with Stane (who was away from the island at the time of the explosion and thus averted mutation), formulates a grand plan. Gathering various forces, they prepare to attack New York City to draw out all mutants and magi.

Stane had been spying on Tony Stark, and secretly used his technology to build his own suit of powered armor. When Howard Stark confronts him on it, Stane destroys him.

Also coming to help defend New York will be Stephen Strange, a master sorcerer who has seen many demons in his time.

got two of the bios done, but may have to redo the Wolverine one. I might have gotten a bit carried away. I'll post them after discussing it with Jeff in the morning.

Well, Howard Stark isn't dead yet, I have plans for him. And Obadiah hasn't shown his true colors to Stark yet.
