I saw that slogan and million versions of the Confederate flag on my vacation. For those of you that understand, please explain to me how Heritage works and how that heritage doesn't include the sad history of slavery.

I'm listening.

It's called "selective amnesia" or omitting parts of history that isn't very nice.

Marxist,

Im with you when your heritage includes hate how can you deny the existance of it. Interesting q really.

I cant figure of your AV it looks like the falg of Trinidad after it has been invaded by Trukey. Exactly what is it from.

Mike

Not an explanation but an observation.

If I am a Southerner into preserving my heritage (racism included or not), wouldnt I drop the flag issue and concentrate on more substantial endeavors?

... and what symbolism did the flag have before the Civil War?

I blackened it. The actual flag is blue. Although you will see the state colleges with orange or red fielded ones.

Sorry Marxist.

I aint intelligent enough to even attempt an answer.

I've been working on versions of my 2,000 and 3,000 mile penis (for Ruby and Lexie respectively). A 7-10,000 mile penis seems improbable and almost absurd.

I wonder if the citizens of south carolina have any concern about having a cresant moon symbol on their flag in the wake of recent world events.

Mike

*Crushed*
You are the 2nd rejection i got today.

It's the whole distance thing aint it?

I can just.......sense it.
*Sniffs*

Good question. I asked myself that too. But in the psychology of S.C. the moon and palmetto tree is so natural, that it probably never occurred to ask that question.

The S.C. flag is the first state flag in America and the initial flag raised over Ft. Sumter after the surrender by the Union in 1861.

The temptation is to mock you with acomment about how I am offended whenever the moon is waxing or waning but in light of what people have deemed unreasonable in recent motnhs; I shall refrain.

Marxist, what bothers you more, that the flag exists in its state or that people are so adament about preserving it?

No correct answer, just curious.

Marxist, you need to start smoking pot.

Heritage is no different than "patriotism" or even religion. I system of symbolic images having little to do with the present. Like right this now.

Heritage, whether it be good or bad, is something that many people place a high value on. No heritage is replete with nothing but positives. Southerners often dangle such slogans as this around in order to note that they have strong ties to their past. Assuming that someone who is interested in preserving heritage is also harboring past hatreds is somewhat skewed.
Granted, there are those who would make their plantation owning, slave holding, rebel yelling ancestors proud, but most people in the south today abhor the idea of slavery, of war, of loss of life. Looking back to hold on to one's heritage does not equate with agreeing with all that was done in the past.
I teach American history. There are episodes in America's past that present day Americans hold in disdain. But, good or bad, we have a heritage that we hold onto.
'Course that's just my opinion.

but most people in the south today abhor the idea of slavery, of war, of loss of life

Gee, really?

I wonder what's their take on water closets and horesless carriages...

For me, it's really simple and clear. If today's German's displayed the Nazi flag, claiming that it was to "honor their heritage," I'd know that they were full of shit. Thank God that they don't do this. Marxist, they're honoring their ancestors who faught to the death to preserve slavery. It's not something that one can successfully split hairs over.

I've said the same many times. Good point.

Sidenote: I read an interesting book over the weekend about Black Confederate soldiers. Very interesting stuff.

Do all you Jewboys where them little beanies? How come they ain't got a propeller on top? What do ya'll do with them extra propellers?

It's funny. The whole war was so much idiocy, and a lovely example of the rich fucking with the poor, since most of the people who fought didn't own slaves, never would own slaves, and would probably never benefit from a slave economy.
