The Etch-A-Sketch is a mechanical drawing toy from the Ohio Art Company.

Aluminum powder is enclosed in a glass housing, and the image appears when a stylus is moved across the glass within the housing to remove the powder. There are two control knobs. One moves the stylus vertically, and the other moves it horizontally.

It is generally regarded as a child's toy, but lately many prominent Republicans have taken an interest in it. Maybe it's the red enclosure that attracts them.
