Brookhollow Academy was the elite school that young women attended who had a future as a man's companion, slave or pet. Katherine had attended Brookhollow since she was a child. Being that her parents had died in a car accident when she was seven, and she lacked any other family, the state had enrolled her at Brookhollow. And now nearing her twentieth birthday she had graduated and tonight she would be going home with her new Master. She stood in her room, packing the last of her things. Some Masters would let her keep the things she'd accumulated, others would demand she get rid of them. But in the off chance hers would allow her to keep them, she was packed and ready to go. Her mahogany hair was tied back in a tight ponytail and for now she was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. She would change into a emerald green halter dress that came to just above her knee, when it was time for the auction. The green dress would show off her copper skin, a legacy of her mother's native american heritage. And her grey, nearly colorless eyes would seem even more striking. She was 5'6" and athletically built from years of running track, practicing martial arts, and playing soccer.
She'd excelled through school, despite being a virgin still she was well versed in how to please her Master, she'd also excelled in academics. Spoke three languages, could talk about art or music just as easily as she could talk sports and fashion. All of her instructors had high hopes for the rest of Kat's life, though most hoped she got a master with a sense of humor. Kat had a playful streak a mile wide and enjoyed playing harmless pranks; rubberbands on the sprayer at the kitchen sink, a penny in the shampoo bottle. Though she'd been taught to have the utmost obedience towards her master, she had a frisky side that appeared occasionally.
A knock at the door drug Kat from her thoughts and she looked over, smiling at one of the teachers, "Time to get ready, Katherine." The next few hours flew by, Kat was transformed from casual to elegant. And she couldn't help but feel the excited butterflies that fluttered in her stomach. Finally! Years of training, studying, practicing and finally she was going to meet her master. Whom she hoped to spend the rest of her life with. Of course that was no guarantee, he could sell her anytime he wished, but she hoped that didn't happen. Looking in the mirror when the assistants finished, she took in her appearance. Her mahogany hair was now piled neatly up on her head, exposing the long line of her neck. but one curled strand of hair was loose on the left side of her head, she wore the green dress with matching shoes that added an inch of height, showcasing her legs. Pressing a hand to her nervous and excited stomach she grinned and waited for her turn to go out on stage.

When one thinks about an auction when one buys or sells humans, rather unpleasant things come to mind. Chains, whips, nasty mob surrounding helpless girls, trying to cope a feel or calling them names. Dirt, misery and barbarism.
But this image couldn't be farther from what Katherine was experiencing right now. Everything was happening in the Great Hall. A spacious place where meetings took place. There was no really big crowd. Only twenty girls finished the school. Some got dropped and transferred to lower-class schools when teachers found them lacking in intellect or obedience. But even without that, there was never a lot of girls from Briookhollow. They were known for their quality, not quantity. It was kinda amazing. Kat was one of the best educated young females in the area, but still had no rights of her own beside rights of Owned Person.
All the girls sat on big, decorative chairs on the podium. Presented not as a cattle, but beautiful gems to be appreciated. Each was accompanied by someone from the Academy.
There was about ninety people in the hall waiting for auction. Not much, but not everyone could afford buying such a commodity.
From time to time men (or sometimes, women) approached given girl. She was taught to stand up and greet them when that happens. Then the potential buyer was free to ask her or her Academy supervisor about her talents. They could take a good look at the girl and even touch them, but groping and things beyond that were forbidden and would be punished by being asked out.
Kat was rather popular. Various people approached her. Asked about her talents, her personality. Some complimented on her looks. Other watched in silence.
There was one who stood out. Tall, handsome man in his late twenties with close cropped beach bleached brown hair and hypnotising, blue eyes. He approached her, wearing an expensive and elegant suit. Gave her a long, curious look. His features were as sharp as his gaze, betraying an equally sharp mind hidden behind them. He reached out and grabbed her chin, making her look him in the eyes. His hand was strong and warm. He asked about her name. Which wasn't strange. But then he asked if she's excited to finally be so close to finding her owner.
After a short conversation showing that he himself is well-educated and rather charismatic, he left her alone and exchanged few words with her supervisor. Then he nodded to her and went to see the other hopefuls.
Finally, the display was over. Girls were taken off the stage and taken to the backstage. Now was the most nervous part. They will be called out one by one and auctioned to their potential new masters. A new life will begin shortly. The unknown future was terrifying and exciting at the same time.
Kat was meant to come out as fourth. But before bidding on the first girl was finished, Mrs. Thorne approached her and signalled her to get out of the queue.
"Not you girl." she said in her usual, stern voice. God, she could make milk curdle with a serious look. But without her, Kat and other girls would never know the proper manners. She wasn't that bad when one knew her better.
"Come with me." she ordered, walking towards the corridor. She expected Kat to follow and she better does so.
Other girls watched her with horror. What could Katherine do to be pulled of the auction? Why was she denied her fate as a companion? This must be serious. None said a word, but their eyes spoke tomes about how much pity and sympathy they feel towards her.
-----------------------
Kat sat in her chair, watching the men and women milling around the Great Hall. When one approached her, she stood, bowing her head slightly and greeting them with "Good afternoon, Sir," or "Good afternoon, Ma'am." She answered any questions that were asked, or left her academy supervisor to answer if it was something only they could. Everyone who approached her was nice enough, but she didn't really feel that spark. At least not until a man approached, his sharp blue eyes on her. The brunette didn't flinch when he grabbed her chin, she simply met his gaze with confident obedience. "Katherine," She murmured then nodded, a soft smile playing at her lips. "Yes, Sir, I am very excited," She paused, "And maybe a bit nervous, but in a good way," She spoke honestly, and she felt a little disappointed when he left, she hoped he might be the one who bought her.
Once they were led off stage to the back, the girls started saying quiet goodbyes to each other. They'd been like sisters for over a decade, it was natural to be sad about saying goodbye, but they were all excited about their new lives starting. Kat waited patiently until her turn but frowned when Mrs. Throne approached her, ordering her to follow. Her eyes widened, wondering what she may have done wrong. She winced, but only said "Yes, Ma'am," and fell into step behind her, following the older woman, her mind frantically trying to figure out what she'd done wrong. Exchanging gazes with the other girls, she left the room, following behind Mrs. Throne.
Though questions raced through her mind, she knew better than to voice any of them. She'd learn what was happening when someone felt like telling her. She didn't have a reason to ask about it. But even in the face of an unexpected turn she held her head in a confident manner, she could handle whatever happened, she'd learned well, she was calm and confident no matter the situation, even if it turned out to be unpleasant. But the excited butterflies turned into ones of dread. She hoped and prayed that she hadn't done something that would prevent her from finding her owner tonight. Katherine couldn't even think of even a mild infraction that she'd done.

Confused Kat was led to a big office, where principal Summers resided. Older, kind man that treated all the girls like his own daughters. He always had some nice words for his students, but never cut them enough slack to spoil them. He was sitting by his desk when two women entered. His hair - or at least what was left of it - almost completely white, making him look even more sympathetic. Right now he looked at the file on his desk. It had her name on it.
"Oh, Katherine, please sit down." he pointed at the chair in front of his desk. "Thank you, Martha. You can go back to your duties." he nodded to the teacher.
"Thank you, sir." woman replied politely and left the office, leaving Kat with the principal.
Old man looked at her with a mix of joy and sadness. He always enjoyed seeing his pupils grow into precious individuals, but parting with them made his heart ache.
"You must be wondering why I called you here." he said. "First of all, don't worry. You're not in trouble." he said reassuringly. "You just won't be auctioned today. A fine gentleman who learned about our offer in advance was interested in you. He decided to pay a special charge for pulling you off."
It was rare, but not unheard of for people to do so. When someone wants to buy a specific girl real bad, he might pay a very high price in advance, avoiding the whole mess with the auction. It usually was much more than expected price of given girl, but you can never tell on those auctions.
"I'm proud to announce you're now owned by respected Mr. Chris Spencer," he smiled at her. "Congratulations. He will be here shortly to pick you up."
And as if summoned by some magic word, a knocking sounded.
"Come in." Mr. Summers said.
Door opened and her new owner entered. It was the same man that got her attention before. He gave Kat a slight smile before approaching the principal and shaking hands with him.
"Mr. Spencer, here are all the papers." Old man passed the file to Kat's new master. "Again, thank you for trusting our Academy and I hope you'll enjoy this fine young woman."
"I was impressed and intrigued by her profile before." Chris replied. "I only needed a look in her eyes and a whiff of her smell before making the final decision."
He turned to the woman he just bought. "Now you're mine, girl. Are you happy?"
---------------------------
Katherine smiled a bit shyly and nodded, "Yes sir, Very happy." She was admittedly overjoyed to have found the man who she hoped to spend the rest of her life with. She was trained to be the perfect companion, pet, bodyguard, secretary, friend, lover or just about anything else her master could want her to be. She met his gaze with her pale eyes as she waited for him. She couldn't help but admire him, it was quite possible he was the most handsome man she had met.
She'd excelled through school, despite being a virgin still she was well versed in how to please her Master, she'd also excelled in academics. Spoke three languages, could talk about art or music just as easily as she could talk sports and fashion.
