No disrespect and your point is well taken.
Some threads are structured so tightly they cannot be left open.
As to why closed one on ones do not go thevemail route...thats easy...we are all exhibitionists or we wouldnt be posting at LIT!
I try and keep a balance with closed and open threads....
There will be a place for new players on my Zeppelin Dreams thread..and your more than welcome to come aboard....
Zipppppping out a here.....................................
About damn time somebody said it. I am always looking for new projects to join. And to tell you the truth, all of the good titles and great plotlines usually state private thread.
I know some of them are structured to only have two people, but many of them aren't. There was one earlier about a teacher, and one classmate. I was shocked to hear it was a private thread.
Even worse, was this great thread I was looking at, with a wonderful introduction, and an even greater storyline. I was reading the first post, and at the very end... the way bottom was a little asterisk with.
*Oh yeah, and this is a thread for me and #%^$^#$, enjoy!*
I would have enjoyed it a hell of a lot better if I could have joined. I know some of the reasons are that once a story gets going, someone usually leaves, and then brings the whole thing crashing, but come on.
Don't let a couple of bad apples spoil it for the rest of us. Give multi-player threads a chance... please.
I have to agree with some of the points made here. It should be almost mandatory to have a mention in the title if it is private. I know I don't have a lot of time to post and that is why I limit myself to a couple threads, but if I did have more time it would be nice to have more options.
right now I am just writing on one and there is lots of room there for new characters to jump in and form their own little circles within the storyline-I mean I jumped in on page 6!
Yeah i totally agree. And sometimes if you try to join in on open existent threads they pretty much shun you b/c you wer'nt there in the begining! grrr arrrg
All right folks...there are open threads out there begging.
As I've said Zeppelin Dreams is almost always open. Chanaud started one called MONTH AT THE LAKE that is open, but hardly anyone has signed on.
You are always free from your very first post to start your own thread of course.
I will give you a small amount of advice though. The more structured the thread, the fewer players you should have.
I have been here ayear and have never seen a thread with six or more players do anything but disentegrate over time.
I would be happy to use a system that would ID a topic in the header.
(O)...open
(R)...restricted...contact originator
(P)...Private.
There are a lot of posts that I read that are closed that I wish I could join in on....then again there are many I read for the pure enjoyment, closed or not. I think it's fine to have a closed thread, but like Morwen said, make it known in the title that it is closed. Not everyone wants to read a private thread.
Ariosto's idea would solve all worries but would everyone remember to identify what the thread is? Probably not.... If you like the premise of a thread and it's closed, why not start a new thread of the same basic premise but open it to all. I've seen many threads on here that are the same or similar. The best thing about this forum is it's open for everyone to express themselves any way they want to.
I don't think we should be setting rules for SRP. If you would like a new set of rules or a change, why don't you contact Laurel, Manu or the moderators and allow them to decide.
If you find that there aren't enough open threads, why don't you do what I did, create them. You will be faced with the same problems I did - you spend time and energy on building a story and your character, only to find writers post once or twice and drop out without a word or have someone crash your thread with childish pranks. Even still, I continue to post open threads. I've posted 3 in the past month and have had little interest. Maybe, it's me. <smile>
If you are truly interested in a particular thread why don't you
PM the thread creator with your character. You will find most to be open minded and will make room for you. Don't be discouraged if they can't. There may be many reasons why. I know if I couldn't include them in the past, I've often suggested starting a thread with them. That is how I've met so many wonderful posters.
I understand your frustrations. If you stick it out, pun intended <wink>, you will find there are more good than bad here at SRP. If you need any help or would like to meet other writers, might I suggest you drop by any of the OOC Clubs like Rick's and China Pearl for a drink.
Meanwhile, Happy Writing and I hope to see more of you here.
Yes I think what Ariosto proposes makes sense. Combined with Morwen's, is even better.
So the tiltle would read:
THE ZEPPELIN (O) <MMMMFFFF>
------>more than 3M or F's meaning multiple. So this thread is totally open and has multiple F and M players.
or:
THE STRIPPER (R) <MMMF>
This thread is restricted, and to join, you would have to contact the thread starter. It's a thread for one F and some M.
or:
VIRGIN BRIDE (P) <MF>
This thread will be private for one M and one F.
On top of that, at the beginning of the first thread, the thread starter would have to explain what he/she expects of others (this is for the O and R class of threads).
Do I make sense? Shall we bring this up with Laurel and Manu?
