Anna has been a lady in waiting to Princess Mary for many years and being a similar age the two have grown up together in a way. Throughout the years, the Princess has grown to completely rely on Anna and the pair spend many of their days together when Mary does not have royal obligations. The Princess and Anna have only recently been invited to His Majesty’s Court where they have danced and dined with the finest bachelors of Europe. Having delved into deeper conversations with these men on the request of her uncle the king, Princess Mary has found that they are intolerably boring compared to her intelligent and witty friend and she is beginning to think of her lady in a different sinful light. As the princess is becoming older The King is keen to betroth her to a Spanish Prince who is heading into the winter of his life, which is not appealing to the young Princess who has just celebrated her 17th birthday.
It is late one blistery evening after Mary has spent an intense evening dining with her uncle King James. The rain batters against the castle’s thin windows and a large fire flickers in the corner of her ladyship’s elaborate bedroom. Peering into their reflections upon a mirror Anna begins to undo the tight lace on the spine of the princess’s beautiful gown, her fingers light upon the elaborate lacing.
“How was your evening, my lady?” she asks gently, her long blonde hair tied back in an elegant plait.
