I know this is not chyoo related but i am having troubles with my computer and was wondering if anyone can help me out...i think i have a trojan and it is making my mouse move by itself and i was wondering if anyone knows of a free trojan remover

Dammit, I worte a full in-depth reply, then accidentely closed internet explorer before sending!

OK, here's what you need:

AVG Antivirus

Ad-Aware

These babies should protect you for your day-to-day internet usage, provided you scan regularly.

If they don't get rid of your trojan, try CWShredder, which only gets rid of CoolWebSearch, but to be honest, most trojans are CoolWebSearch. Also, try HijackThis. It's very effective, but you pretty much need a degree in computing to properly use it, though, so go to this forum and post the log from HijackThis.

ALso, it's worthwhile getting the latest windows updates, since the latest security pack (SP2) is pretty great at preventing trojans, pop-ups and viruses.

Finally, if it's a problem that you say is affecting your mouse, disable remote desktop on your computer (go to your windows help files if you don't know how to do this).

Of course, you could just need a new mouse!

well i ran the avg thing and it found 2 trojans and a java thingy...then i ran the shredder and that found 3 different things...but my mouse is still acting crazy :(

I've been having trouble with my pc lately too. Thanks for the lin to AVG. I have been looking for a free anti-virus. I have Norton anti-virus but the list is outdated.

Thanks,

No problemo, niceguytim.

I don't like Norton, I find it too invasive, it basically fucks up anything that you try to run on your computer and each scan takes forever.

As for the crazy mouse situation, Twiztedclown, have you switched off remote desktop yet? Right click on My Computer, then click properties. Select the 'remote' tab and make sure both boxes there are unchecked. You don't need remote desktop unless you are on a network and the administrator wants to play with your area. On a home PC it's basically a huge hole for anyone with half a mind to get in.

Also, as an afterthought, make sure your mouse pointer speed is quite slow. Go to control panel\mouse\pointer options, and make sure it is at least half speed, if not slower. If it is set too fast, then some computers can't really keep up and so if you even nudge the mouse, it does one hell of a wacky dance. Entertaining but frustrating.

Oh, and you really need Ad-aware. AVG is mainly for viruses, CWShedder is solely for CoolWebSearch spyware, but Ad-aware will basically seek and destroy any troajns or spyware remaining on your computer.
