i don't seem to be able to put a picture in a post instead of a link no matter what i do. can someone explain it to me like i was about 3 please

Hmmm

From what I think I understand -

if you are attaching a picture from your own computer, it will show up as a string of what is greek to me, and when clicked, the picture will open in another window.

To put a picture inside your post so that it shows up as a picture,
the picture must already exist online.

So, as you are typing your post, look up - all those buttons for Bold, Italics, Underline, Size, Font, Color, http://, @, and THERE - click the button that says IMG inside of [ ] brackets.

A new window should open, and copy/paste the web address of the picture you are trying to insert. Then click OK.

For example, I went to yahoo image search, searched for lovers, and found the picture that is below, if I did this right. I clicked the IMG button, pasted in the address of the picture, and clicked OK.

Now, in your post that you are typing, you should see a [, with the word IMG, then another end bracket, then then the address, then another [, followed by IMG, followed by an end bracket.

Well, ok, I tried it. That's how I think it's supposed to work, but maybe I'm missing some key step, as well. I'm just inept, never been able to get that to work either. Maybe someone will explain it to us?

You had it corect except for a space after the first IMG tag. With that space in there, the "Automatically parse URLs" radio button put URL tags around the address of the picture and turned it into a link instead of a hotlink.

The biggest problem with hotlinking pictures is finding pictures that aren't hotlink protected or password protected. A URL used with the IMAGE tags muste be constantly available to Lit's BB software -- It can NOT be an image loaded from a database, require a password or login to view, or end in something other than JPG, GIF, or BMP

Weird Harold!

Once again, you are my absolute hero of the day. You have solved something that has been a mystery since the day I first posted at Lit.

I adore you, and would shower you with a thousand delighted smooches of grinning fun if it would put a smile on your face.

Wowsers.

That, combined with the photobucket page from DT, opens all kinds of possibilities to me.

:heart:s to both of you!

That sentence just puts a big smile on my face. :D

Okay, back to the technical stuff.
