My computer is infected with "winshow" - downloded spybot, picks up problem: "sexlist: tracking cookie". Spybot fixes problem, but as soon as I go back on the net I have the same problem. This is really upsetting my enjoyment of your site (& other Hot sites) - when I click onto a story, it takes me to "tooncomics" ! I'm a real dummy with computers, don't know dos or hoe to get to it. I;m using NT. HELP

Go to Internet Options and change your default security settings to High. That will stop you picking up cookies from the "Internet Zone"

Sites where you need cookies -- like tracking your last read pointer here at Lit, or your shopping cart at Amzon -- you can add to your "Trusted Sites Zone" with Medium or Low security to allow cookies.

when I click onto a story, it takes me to "tooncomics"

This is a separate problem from the Sexlist: tracking cookie. Spybot or Ad-Aware 6.0 should eliminate the problem once you find the site that loaded the redirect an put it in your "banned zone" so you won't pick it up again.

WH it sounds like it changed bjas home page. I had that happen to me. Can you tell bias how to wipe the cookies as well?

Get the following programs:
Mozilla for an internet browser- no popups/unwanted cookies if set right.
Adaware to clean up the spy ware off your puter.
Zonealarm to monitor your net ins and outs to keep unwanted programs from contacting the outside world and from coming into your puter too.

I like spybot myself better than adware, but the other alternative, switch to linux and no worries then

Carnus

I use Spybot and adaware, they catch things the other doesnt.

Spybot also has two preventative features. Click the immunize icon. The first is a co-op with spyware-blaster to list several hundered Active X controls that get loaded under the covers in a drive-by hijacking. If it's on the list, IE won't let it load. The second list is installers for malware that can get run atomatically if not blocked.
