I'm getting a story ready to submit and have a technical question. The directions say to copy the manuscript into the space provided in the profile area. Where do I type the story initially? I know this sounds dumb to seasoned users, but I'm still a novice in the computer world.

It assumes you will have written your story in on a word processing programme like MS WORD or similar. In this instance you can copy the text and paste it into the submission form. This allows you to preview the story as it will look on the site once posted.

Does that help? :)

Yes, that does help! A lot. I have microsoft word. I thought that would be the way to do it but better to ask beforehand and make it easier. Thank you so VERY much.

No probs :D Welcome to Lit! :rose:

You can also submit the Word.doc directly, if you don't want to take the chance that the copy/paste submission will screw you story up. It does sometimes. Putting in spaces and weird shit that shouldn't be there, but if you submit the .doc instead, an actual person has to deal with it, and you know it'll look right when it's posted. It does take a little longer, but I consider the extra couple days to be well spent, personally.

Also, it's a lot easier that way if you're going to be using italics and such, because you don't have to manually insert the code for it. You just have to warn jmanagement that your story requires special formatting.

LMAO - my brain is warped and I've had one glass of wine too many tonight! I clicked on this thread thinking I might pick up some tips on the whole domination/submission theme that seems so prevalent in stories 'cause I just don't get it and couldn't help but laugh at myself! Thought someone else might enjoy a giggle too!

By the way, Honeybee, I'm glad you asked this question because I'll be trying in a few days to be doing the same thing. Hope you're enjoying Lit as much as I am and I'll be looking for your story! :catroar:

If you really would like to find out about D/s and what's going on with that scene, I recomend hanging out in the BDSM forum, and reading the threads there, or even starting one to ask the questions that you have. I think they're pretty friendly folks over there.

BTW, welcome to Lit, and especially the AH. Hope you enjoy the place.

Welcome to Literotica and specifically the AH, Honeybee, and you too, Kitten. :) We have quite a few kittens already, but we all like them. This is a nice and friendly place to hang out when you should be writing and don't feel like doing it. :)

As noted you can also upload your story file avoiding the whole "cut and paste" using the browse button just below the paste window

However to add one more complication ot your life..

They want that file saved with a TXT or RTF extension before its sent on to LIT.

I send mine in as "RTF" and it seems to work fine. "RTF" holds the various formats ie italics bold etc.

Takes about 7 days from pushing the submit button to seing the words posted however.

Hope this helps

Enjoy the journey

alternatively (and I know I've seen someone somewhere say they do this) type your story straight into the box provided.

This isn't recommended if you're a 'go back and edit' type writer.

(typewriter! hehehe)

MSWord .DOC format is also acceptable, but it is the file format and not just the file extension that matters.

A warning about Rich Text Format (.RTF): most of the complaints I see (here and in he How To Forum) about stories that have formatting and missing text problems turn out to be stories submited in Rich Text Format.

Whatever format/method you use to submit your story, make sure that there are two paragraph breaks between paragraphs. Lit's story formatting effectively strips out single paragraph breaks and will turn your story into what looks like one single huge paragraph.

I've seen people have problems when they have itallics bridging

across a paragraph gap.

Try to avoid that ;)

If you copy and paste it, make sure and go over the entire thing in the preview window. That will eliminate any possible mistakes and give you a chance to see it the way the readers will. I often find little things that look OK in Word, but just aren't visually right in Lit's format. I know what TC is saying, but I always submit my stories that way and have never had a problem.

Not true. I always submit mine in .doc format and they take it, and it works just fine, so a straight Word.doc is acceptable too.

Sorry about that - My error

I went back and checked and found DOC listed as well as txt abd rtf

I could have sworn that as I submitted, about three days ago...

Oh well, memory is so fleeting but look at all the new folks I'm meeting ;)
