I know I'm pretty bad at this, particularly with the number of early stories of mine which were re-categorized.

Usually it's pretty clear where the central theme is going, and in a multiple part story, I can break the portions up into multiple categories.

My latest work is something new for me. - Still branching out.

It's a Mind-Control story. That's the central theme. But it's heavy into incest, with our young protagonist using his "ability" on his sisters and eventually his mother.

It could even branch into the group sex and first time categories.

But I'm concerned that the incest might be too heavy without being in that category.

I'm thinking of Mind-Control with a disclaimer up front.

Suggestions? Advice? How do you handle this type of situation.

This is nowhere near an expert opinion here, but I would think you should put it in the incest category and mention somehow in your title or tagline about the mind control thing. For one, and again, this is far from expert opinion, if you post in mind control, not everyone will be into wanting to read a story involving incest (to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't). Granted, the same is possibly true with the other; however, I would just think that if people were looking to read an incest story, they'd probably be willing to give yours a chance, even if they weren't into mind control. Of course, I may be way off but, eh.

Thanks - you're echoing my concerns exactly. That it's a Mind-Control story, there's no doubt, but I sometimes believe there's a hierarchy of categories.

If your story flirts with content in the top tier hierarchy, e.g. Incest / Gay / BDSM, and you don't categorize it as such, you're going to hear about it and piss off a lot of people.

So many stories cross so many boundaries, I wonder if there's a lowest common denominator thing going on here...

You don't need to worry. If your story has incest and they catch it, into incest it goes automatically.

Thanks for the info -

Do you know if that is true of any other categories?

I don't think that reassignment is automatic for any other category. However, if a story is obviously in the wrong category, it may be reassgned.

I'm certainly not an expert, and have never written an incest story, but I agree with the above advice.

I think exo makes a good point.

There are certain cats here; incest, gay, BDSM, t/s etc that get in people's craw if they open one - don't understand it myself.

To get the best response I would suggest you go for the incest cat and clearly sign the mind control in the title expansion and the tags.

Yes, usually if the story contains incest, it will be put in that category regardless of what other elements it contains or if the author chose a different category. It's done this way in order not to offend someone reading another category who does not wish to read about incest and might stumble onto it mistakenly if it's not in the incest category.

BDSM is also usually done this way. I had a story that to me was more romance than anything else, but it had a slight bdsm bent to it (nothing overt at all) so the category I chose was disregarded, and it was put in the BDSM category.

Incest is a popular category. You might as well put it there, you'll get the most readers. Also, you're less at risk of "offending" there, though I agree with a warning tag at the beginning of each chapter. Incest offends a lot of other readers, but incest readers seem to love almost anything else you'd put in--mind control, BDSM...only gay male might give you a problem.

Putting it another way, if the protagonist is having sex with sisters and mom, the incest folk don't care how he does it, they're just happy that he's doing it.
